Hm, they've hidden the 64-bit PC version a bit. Go to the PC/laptop download page, then under the big green button click "Alternative Download Options." On the right side of the options that just appeared there will be a radio button to select the 64-bit version.

What sort of errors are you getting, and which client are those errors occurring on?

Thanks so much for that! I was getting quite frustrated yesterday, this is my first effort with Linux and I couldn't get it to do anything.

I was trying to install the SMP client, don't recall what the errors were ATM.

I'll install this version and see how I do with that.

For Ubuntu 8.04 go here: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

Click on: Alternative download options, including Ubuntu installer for Windows

Click the dropdown Download location:
and select the appropriate place where you are

Click the circle next to:
Download Ubuntu 8.04 LTS
AND
Click the circle next to:
64-bit version

Click the big green Download Here button.

As for XP-64, the only reason you will need that is if you plan to run the bigadv client. Otherwise, XP-32 will easily run a VM/Linux 4 core smp client and 4 gpu clients. I install 4g of memory which will yield about 3.5 of usable for Windoze.

OK, I have 8.04 running, attempted to install smp, whilst cutting and pasting I inadvertently installed 6.02. I redid the installation typing it this time, seems that 6.24 installed yet when I start fah it shows 6.02. Is this hard to fix?

Open firefox in Ubuntu, go here http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding/linux/fah6 and download it. Move it to whatever folder you have folding in. You may have to chance permissions to allow it to execute.
Rerun -configonly and you should be set (I hope I didn't forget anything ).

Update: Video cards still on backorder Starting to consider a different direction if they don't arrive soon.

I reinstalled the folding client to 6.24, smp is working fine now. I wanted to try and run the GPU client in Ubuntu but I can't seem to get the Nvidia drivers installed. I don't see them when I look in Hardware Drivers even though the install looks normal with no errors. When booting, I get a message indicating that I am running in Lo Res mode, says to configure, I do so, it reverts back. also, xserver says it is not configured so I run config, it says something about the keyboard and mouse, nothing about the drivers. I have been reading the tutorials and forums all afternoon, none of the solutions seem to help. I think it's time to install Windoze and run Ubuntu in VM

Boy has this been a frustrating day!

I installed XP, vmware 3, Ubuntu 8.04 as guest OS. Installed SMP Client, tried to start it, won't initialize becauese it only sees one core!
Go to VMWare settings, hardware, shows 1 Processor. Click on processor, change number of cores to 4, click OK, get "Could not initiate CPU hotplug". What?!?! Anybody else seen this or know what the deal is? Can't seem to find any info on this.

I see where I went wrong now!

After reading the article about VMware optimization on FAH-Addict a half dozen times, I realized I needed to add Code : numvcpus = "4" at the END of the file, lol.

No reflection on the writer, I just need some sleep, been at this most of the day.

Update : Well, I finally received my GTX260s. Got all four up and running last night. At the moment Fahmon is showing 23684 PPD for the GPUs, can't get it to see my Ubuntu SMP Client so I'm not sure of it's production.

Nice one slowride, just out of curiosity what projects are you currently running on the 260's - i would expect more PPD than that, my 2 x 8800gt and 1 gts 250 do 16-17k. It sounds to me like there may be a priority issue here.

You'll want to install Samba on the Ubuntu box to let it share folders in a way that Windows can see. This thread: http://forums.overclockersclub.com/inde ... pic=160706 has a post detailing how to get it set up- scroll down a ways to find it.

Here's the numbers from my 250GTS, I would expect about 7.5k PPD per 260 but i don't have one to confirm - it may be worth PM'ing kiore and trying to get some PPD numbers from him.

P5912 5300PPD
5768 6600PPD
5912 5300PPD
5772 6700PPD.

By prioity issue you need to make sure that the VM is running at idle priority and your GPU's are set to low/slightly higher.
You need to add the following lines to the bottom of the folding.vmx file - Edit using wordpad NOT notepad:

priority.grabbed = "idle"
priority.ungrabbed = "idle"
Save the file and off you go.
Gpu clients can be altered on the advanced tab of the configuration box. Access from the systray is right click the F@H icon, and select configure.
