The GPU2 client will be making a big contribution too. Just wait. And it would be even greater if they could figure out how to run FAH on nvidia GPUs.smASHer88 wrote:I PREDICTED 2 PETAFLOPS BY JUNE!!! ... as long as growth in active PS3 folders continue.

Re: Highwater Mark
This might help on the introduction of Nvidia F@H client sometime in the future. Because if I remember correctly the reason or at least one of the reasons for Folding@home not having an Nvidia GPU client is because the people behind F@H didn't like CUDA.
I would certainly want to hear what the people in charge of F@H would have to say about this interesting piece of news. Even though it's most likely too early for any comments on their part, but time will tell.

The subtle difference between didn't like and doesn't work might have been lost in the translation.

Yes, but this should reduce the crunching time because you have to turn it off to play games. It also doesn't explain how 20,000 new buyers also discovered Folding all on the same day. Anyway, if WUs are being returned, no one's going to complainapd183 wrote:In case you were still wondering, this was released last week: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_IVPlayLoud wrote: Yeah, what's up with this?

20,000 new buyers didn't discover it in one day. There were issues with stats servers for a few days and the osstats page that shows how many clients there are was down for longer. So this increase was over at least two days and probably over 3 or 4 days.Foxery wrote:Yes, but this should reduce the crunching time because you have to turn it off to play games. Re: Highwater Mark
If some of those clients haven't had their machine on for a while and finally turned it on to play GTA4, that could explain an increase. Yes it doesn't fold while they're playing, but now that their machine is on it can fold when they aren't. It could also be new consoles from people who were waiting for a popular game to be released.
I haven't been following the total CPU number; how fast has that been increasing?

I too thought the stats was a fluke of some sort, surge etc...
It did start up the day GTAIV was released. It makes me wonder what will happen when MGS4 comes out, can Stanford handle going past 3 petaflops?

I forgot what i had in here last time.
Re: Highwater Mark
As the current FAH infrastructure is supposed to handle 1M active clients then 3PF is not an issue.Brian Redoutey wrote:I too thought the stats was a fluke of some sort, surge etc...

Thanks, anandhanju,
Here's a snapshot from Monday, June 16th, just before the nVidia release:
note: Windows CPUs have increased in step with new GPUs.

early look at updated stats
Before GPU2, we had around 500 "active" GPUs. I'm glad to see that number at 3353 and growing... Let the twin powers of AMD and nVidia combine!

Well, I certainly hope everyone will update their drivers to make sure we're getting all the speed we can from these cards.. And whop the PS3 back to the stone age where it belongs! :D
