Lets see what 24/7 would require:
1. Computer Systems specialist
2. Science position for each type of wu. (Reg, GPU, BigAdv, etc) just to name 3. So lets say 5 positions here.
Thats a total of 6 new positions.
Getting 3 in each position would mean 18 positions. But that would still leave overtime for each position so will probably need 4 in each position for 24 new positions.
At an average of $25 per hour + $20 for benifits thats $45 per hour times 24 times 40 hours equals $43,200 per week, times 52 weeks equals $2,246,400.00.
And don't forget overtime for sickness, annual vacation, night differential, sunday differential, hollidays. That will add about 20% so $2,695,680.00.
So really Dr. Pande was a little conservative in his estimate.
Now you could cut corners and have 1 person available to answer questions 24/7 on 2-3 different kinds of wu's, but there would be complaints there when the answer would be, "Don't know enough about that type of wu to give you and answer, you'll have to wait til Tuesday, as Mondays a holiday and the person in that area won't be in til then." ands it's Friday night.

.
As things stand today, a lot can be done Remotely, so that need only to cost Stanford if something like this happens (on WE or official holidays) and for the time needed to fix the problem(s).
Depending on the quality of the server rooms hardware & software, that shouldn't happen too much.
The everyday weekly stuff is taken care of by the current staff and within acceptable time.
You 're redesigning the current support completely when it doesn't need to; it 's many a time in weekends and or official holidays that something (major) happens or starts to happen ...

Personally, I believe that even when the stats are down for the third party, everybody is loosing the same amount (remember that you are getting 0 credits) hence your position in the 24 Hour Average would be same. However when the update happens, thinks will change as there will be a huge amount of points to add. (I am guessing but if anyone good in maths wants to verify it, please do it:).
Right now, the Official Stats for me has updated with the correct amount of WUs!
PS One bit of clarification (sorry I should have really emphasized this before). The only part that was down was the updating of the web page. The stats should be just fine. You should all see a big bump in stats now.

Please have THEM post, we'd be happty to hear true posting.... unless you can provide a F@Hlog to cover it. I work for a large corp (GE) and i would hate to have to name drop
. They don't pay that way with the "single time for overtime" ruling in effect lately. Granted they're not happy. But WTH can they do... other than look for new place to work
. Love Congress huh.

All I was adding up is 4PM-8AM (2 shifts) and weekends and holidays. Figured the current staffing could handle Mon-Fri 8AM-4PM.
What your suggesting is someone on call, have to stay within distance of campus in case they have to come in, they still would have to be paid. What I was answering is the request to do a 24/7 trouble answering which would require someone to be actually there. Yes a lot can be done remotely, which is what is being done now that so many are complaining about. If your going to make changes in something why not do it right and so if someone has 2.5 Mil to donate this year and a little more next year, and so on and so forth, I'm sure Pande Group would be happy to accept. How about some of the stimulus money?

C'mon Rick,
Add anything you want. still it IS an Institute of higher learning is it not? That automatically means, doogie howser's by the "lots". Give them some 'real world' experience for resume's
.
They could immensely drop the overhead costs
. I do it all the time for GE's engineers. I understand all the concern that I am 'only' the 2nd highest paid hourly worker in my plant. But I also have both experience as well as college to solidify my asset to GE. We most likely employ the highest level of Edison (not quite graduated) engineers of all corp America. Yet the disconcerted Hourly workers still pull their butts out of the fire on a regular basis... OK, nuf there.................
Point is: at a center of higher learning, there is plenty of (WOW.. Cheap) almost qualified students that could get a nice anecdote on their diploma........ and would want to.
I have 172 college credits... a Bachelors in Science, minor in chemistry, associates degree in tool design tech. AIS, Colleges are ripe for the picking as they will all have to stand out individually to secure jobs in a field with NO demand.

Sorry Vijay,
Please provide an honest assessment for the Donors. Is it an It Problem or a HW issue?
It is becoming 'cumbersome' for the 'Donor' to get a grip on the real problem for a GREAT Science project... No annimossity intended
