Looks like gog and fah choose to use the same software for network communications.

What is Ssleay32.dll?

Ssleay32.dll a DLL (Dynamic Link Library) file, developed by The OpenSSL Project, which is referred to essential system files of the Windows OS. It usually contains a set of procedures and driver functions, which may be applied by Windows.

OpenSSL is a software library for applications that secure communications over computer networks against eavesdropping or need to identify the party at the other end. It is widely used by Internet servers, including the majority of HTTPS websites

I guess it explains why the installer skipped all the .dlls, if they were already installed by something else, but not the original message about stopping all running FAH software or quitting "any applications that are using files from the Folding@home installation" given that it hadn't been installed.

I seem to remember downloading the Myst Masterpiece Edition when GOG were offering it for free but I've had no further interaction with GOG and don't have software relating to it outside the Myst installation that I can find. I'm not even aware of any GOG sotware running if I have the game up, and it certainly wasn't running when I tried to install FAH.

Anyway it took most of the evening but I now have Mint installed alongside Windows on the Viao and can dual boot. FAH is installed on Mint and already running a WU so touch wood I'm home and dry there.

If it's a wet day tomorrow I'll see if I can find out what's happened with the FAH installation on the PC.

It's always interesting to see how people first try to blame FAH software when they run into problems trying to install it on their buggy machines and how they arrive here with an attitude...

If you want to find what loaded a .dll use process explorer.

Hi HugoNotte.

Yup. You're quite right. FAH really should be left to the elite - the kind of person who spends all their time playing with their hardware and software, and sleeps with their laptops.

Well I've got better things to do than debug Linux and crawl around my system settings. My Viao was still running this am and running a folding WU, but when I tried to VNC into it (las it did successfully several times yesterday), it screwed up my video card and cost me the display on the laptop too so I had to power down and wipe out several hours of folding to get everything back.

I've no idea what the problem was - probably with the Linux video card driver as I've never had Linux on this machine before and only installed it in order to run FAH as it wouldn't on the Windows installation as everything else I've installed on it does. So I'll take your advice and leave it to the experts to run FAH. I've appreciated the aid I was getting on this site but I'm obviously just a pain in the ass to the know-it-all and I'm sure you project never needed us plebs anyway.

Sorry about the attitude but I do rather miss the hours I wasted trying to join your clique.

Thanks for trying. Sometimes for no particular reason software doesn't install easily and Linux especially doesn't "just work" whatever people say.

I get it. Computers are buggy and frustrating. The way to become a know it all is often through the fights you've had with annoying issues. I've been there, so, so many times.
