Honestly, its quite alright if you leave. People with this attitude from the start aren't really what we are looking for. You seem to be very new to the distributed computing world and have no idea what you are doing. Which in most cases is completely fine and understandable when starting out.

When I started in 2010 working on different projects, it took me so long to figure out the intricacies of projects, advanced controls, how it interacted with my system etc.

You vied to not ask a single question in another forum page, nor read any of the copious amounts of posts discussing the massive uptick in F@H users going from around 30,000 Avg. daily to over 400,000. This caused a tremendous strain on the backend of the project. They have worked tirelessly to strengthen the servers and correct for the new influx of users. With time, user stats are starting to refresh quickly again, and proper work completed is showing up. You will learn over time that with distributed computing, whether it be here or with other software such as BOINC, things take time to work and complete. You have absolutely no patience. You are clearly not cut out for this type of work at this time.

Maybe work on yourself, and fix your system build to make it viable for extreme workloads. Ample cooling, custom fan curves, change advanced settings in F@H app. Better yet, simply read some documentation and learn how it all works. It's sad that I have been folding and contributing to Boinc projects for years, and out of all the combined projects, my first post was compelled to be a response to you, because you are so egregiously hostile and foolish.

Hey i am happy that this "crappy" software benchmarks my new system so well. without this i probably had never recognized a problem in the design of with my watercooling system And as a newbie i found answers to all of my questions in this forum, so its all good.

I think its alright. I've been somewhat of a amateur-nerd with online computing and gaming for 21 years now.

To be honest though, especially considering because of this corona virus recently I would've thought that some super rich company like Apple, Google or whoever would get behind this project and give it a really big boosting helping hand with their software engineering capabilities, for free to FAH. I mean its basically crowdfunding for scientists who can't get the money for the hardware that they need.

Yep, and on the new computer I just bought that happened to be the ssd boot drive. Should have just built it myself but was feeling lazy. Alienware is junk if anybody was thinking of buying one. Only made it a week.

Indeed. I thought I had a stable overclock until I fired up F@H CPU folding! Now I run a 3.65GHz all core 1.125V profile in my BIOS for folding. Much cooler and more power efficient and only giving up a little folding performance.

I've been running F@H for a bit over 2 weeks on my laptop. The first day or two getting the slots configured right was tricky but there was heaps of help on the forums - running searches and reading a lot is how I solved my issues.

I'm surprised my laptop has held up so well. F@H maxes out my GPU (Geforce 1060) and CPU (i7 7700HQ). The comp hasn't crashed yet but it's been sitting on 95C for a while with fans on max speed. I recently tweaked the F@H to Medium settings and Windows Power Options to reduce CPU performance to 75% (instead of 3GHZ boost clock it now sits at 2GHz), along with the fan curve. This has resulted in fan speed dropping from 5K RPM to 3.8K RPM, and temps (both graphics and CPU) sitting in the 70C mark.

Pretty happy with that!

Since I've been doing this, I've now started investigating a dual GPU PC build.... onwards and upwards!

Definitely. I've have to make tweaks to my gaming rig to accommodate it. Turned off turbo boost, and set it to only use 6 threads, despite my machine having 12 hardware threads due to hyperthreading. Apparently keeping the pipelines full generates excessive heat, and FAH keeps them full like no game does.

I've also found that underclocking my GPU too much crashes it. So much for reducing fan noise.

Kinda sad that somebody just threw a fit and just left. There are things that can be done to make it more stable.

Nah, can certainly do with Win10 too while gaming on the side



Betriebszeit = German for "Uptime" (18d).
Rebooted after 22d at 95% CPU/GPU average due to having to install stuff that wanted me to reboot.

My Windows 10 folding machines only reboot once a month to apply Windows Updates and rotate the logs ...

Even it is written somewhere someone said. No one reads that... They should probably put it in red text, when you install program and you have to scroll down and read it and check box, before continuing installation. But to warn, not to scare people off and to explain and link to a stress test, if they can run it hours without a problem. Because many people would probably get scared it can damage their pc and choose to not participate. So it is tricky, not give warning, people who don't stress test can damage their hardware. But if you warn people it can damage pc, without proper cooling, it may scare some off.

On default setting, program is gonna probably use all resources. There is no difference between medium and full for me. So if people don't have appropriate cooling, that can damage their system. And how many people actually care and do stress test, or tweak their fan rpm...

This is gonna dissuade some people from running app... Surprised there isn't anything like that...

You could accomplish the same by using the same user name and key, and checking https://apps.foldingathome.org/cpu

so games that do the same allowing a user to set all settings to ultra; do they warn the user that it could overheat their computer and damage their graphics card?

does Chrome warn that it is a memory hog and will slow your computer down unless you reboot regularly?

Lol this is something completely different. Game usually won't cause 100% load at all times. And you won't play probably 2 days in a row. It is obvious, it dissuades people from crunching. There could be a simple warning when installing like: make sure you have sufficient cooling, recommended to do a stress test and continue to your own risk. But if you have sufficient cooling, this program can't damage your pc, to give people insurance. Many people don't even tweak their fan's rpm, or don't give to picking cpu cooling much thought. After it will destroy someone's cpu, he will probably quit and never come back. Do as you like, but there would be no harm to give simple warning and link to site with more info, but to not scare people off.

If it was my program, i would definitely do that just saying.
