The command worked like a charm...
Options screen presented during install, and I entered my info and password, and left the box to launch at startup checked. (It's default setting)

Rebootted the PC, and fired up both viewer, and FAHControl.
Still the same deal.

viewer trying to connect, and protein demo.
FAHControl - Client: local connecting inactive.

Rats! thought we had it.

"apt-get remove" just removes the package. "apt-get purge" removes the package and the configuration files, and some system (I think dpkg) is will ask the installation questions again. Man pages are your friend, always. :)

:( Is FAHClient running? Also, Web Control is at http://folding.stanford.edu/client/ which connects through to http://127.0.0.1:7396/ but I highly suspect that it won't connect with FAHClient if FAHControl and FAHViewer don't either.

I prefer "htop" instead of "top" for viewing running processes. I'm running Mint 14 right now, and I didn't have to change my firewall settings. IIRC, it worked right off the bat for me. I've yet to test in Mint 15 though.

I don't think it is running.

I have a process monitor, and see both FAHviewer, and FAHControl listed there...

No FAHClient is displayed.

Time to change the process to a full blown app, with icon for starting. :)

Open a terminal and type the following:

Code: Select all

ls -l /var/lib/fahclient
Copy/paste the output from that into a post here.

I suspected as such. Now the trick is to figure out how to get fahclient running. Does "sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient start" work?

Welcome to Linux, where everything is subdivided. Some purists like running FAHClient in the command-line, or are on a headless machine that can't run FAHControl or FAHViewer, or are in a Linux distribution which doesn't support installing the other packages. It's more adaptable and more Linux-ish if it's divided up. F@h has always had client+cores+WUs as separate entities. Now the Linux version has fahclient+fahcontrol+fahviewer+cores+WUs. It actually makes sense if you realize how dynamic the project is overall. http://folding.stanford.edu/English/V7- ... iate#ntoc1

scott@scott-OptiPlex-755 ~ $ ls -l /var/lib/fahclient
total 0
scott@scott-OptiPlex-755 ~ $

scott@scott-OptiPlex-755 ~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/FAHClient start
[sudo] password for scott:
Starting fahclient ... FAIL
scott@scott-OptiPlex-755 ~ $

Talonman wrote:I used the Mint App installer that activated when I clicked on the saved program.
It had the 'Reinstall' option.
When that didn't present me with the options screen, I then went for the 'Remove', and then the 'install' option.
Still no options screen presented during the install.

And yes, I do remember seeing that screen, Team, and Name...
And did enter my data.

I just couldn't remember which app it was part of.
I installed all 3 back to back.

I think 1 small icon would solve my issue, and give me the option of starting the 3rd mystery app manually.
Then you could also edit your data there.
See my post at EVGA for ways to get you folding.

If FAHClient is install all you should have to do is open a terminal and type just as seen FAHClient then press enter.
Those letter has to be in caps just as I have posted it or it will not start and will give a fail error.

Thanks... :)

I will give V7 a bit longer.

If it wont run on Mint 15, or Ubuntu 13.04 I will give V6 a shot.

That may work. I'm hoping for a better solution than to run FAHClient in the command-line, that seems unnecessary.
This is not the first report of the service saying "FAIL" when an attempt is made to start it. I don't recall what fixes it, but we need to figure it out.

Well in my case it was because I unchecked the auto start when installing and is why I have to run it from terminal.
But then again I don't mind since this is my preference as I hate anything that auto starts.
I like full control and only want things to start when I tell it to, not when it wants to.

Heck, to be honest, I now am thinking I did leave the 'auto start' box checked in both my installs on Mint 15, and Ubuntu 13.04...

I know I did for sure on my Ubuntu laptop install, and now on this Mint desktop too, after the purge, and reinstall.
I believe both have the same issue.

Hope we figure it out. :)

Well once it has been unchecked then uninstalled then reinstalled I think it
still retains what it was told on the very first install, because I went threw
pretty much what your going threw now when I 1st installed this in Linux Mint 14.

The uninstall I found didn't remove everything that was install in my case.
A clean install of the OS Mint 14 was a fix or use the terminal command with the install I already had.

Here is a post I had made for someone else that might be of some help.
It has pictures of each step and how it looks when using the terminal.
http://www.evga.com/forums/fb.ashx?m=1943623
I have mine set to pause on start and is why it doesn't start folding as soon as the command is excuted in terminal,
There for I have to right click in the control software then tell it to fold before it starts.
