Ok, time for update ive run stresscpu2 for 20hrs and it did not show any errors.
Today when i was at the PC i finished folding project 8073, and i was watching which new project i would get. After 8073 project was finished Fah downloaded next WU and then the GUI stopped responding. The FahControl was utilizing 50% cpu time in task manager, so i killed all fah processes. Went to a work folder and made a copy of all WU's there. Later i found out that the FH did save the log from that situation

So it turns out i got another 5 WU's from project 6338 (38, 55, 3 ; 26, 55, 2 ; 39, 55, 2 ; 41, 55, 3 ; 9, 37, 10). With the last one of those i started to experiment. Disconnected from network i started to run those over and over (by overwriting folder in work directory), while disabling services and application such as firewal, av and anything running in background, reinstaled GPU driver, used older ones. No effect.
I've had a clean windows 8 installed on an other drive so ive give it a go.
The WU's would still crash, but from time to time after few crashes it would start to fold

only waited for few %, as i don't have time to sit at clean windows installation.

After that i decided to check those WU on my brother computer, Bought nearly at the same time, similar CPU (1st Gen Core2Duo), same amount of RAM (4GB), Windows8, and the effect was the same as on my clean Windows8, it did crash, but from time to time it would start to fold. Sadly i did not get any logs from that PC, and brother already uninstalled FH.

So its quite weird that same problem exists on two different computers, which still makes me believe the problem might be in the WU's not liking my PC configuration. Will try some more tests if ill have time in the future.

This is a strange one ... Upon downloading and attempting to commence execution of another Project 6338 WU, I received the following error message dialog from Microsoft.

My first thought is: "Well, I don't want to restart the FAH client since I have a currently executing WU that is approximately a third of the way through, so maybe I can go into Advanced mode and figure out how to kill slot 00 (where this 6338 WU had downloaded) and click "Finish" to let the currently executing WU complete before I shut down and restart the client. However, before I can do that, I have to make the pesky Microsoft error window go away, so I go ahead and send the error report [to MSFT] and then I go into Advanced mode to get a copy of the error log. When I return back to "Novice" mode, that same pesky MSFT error dialog has appeared again. So I'm thinking, "Hmmm, maybe the a_4 core attempted to start executing the 6338 WU again and tripped the same error ..." Playing a hunch, I sent the requested error report to Microsoft a second time. I'm not sure how many times (it was either two or three times) but the a_4 core kept attempting to start execution of the 6338 WU and I kept sending error reports to Microsoft. It was either on the second (or the third) iteration of this, but a miracle happened: The 6338 (36, 33, 6) WU began executing!!

I couldn't believe it, so I decided to wait until the progress bar showed [at least] 1 percent progress on the WU before I copied the log. I just checked and the 6338 (36, 33, 6) WU has crunched for over 90 minutes and completed just over 14.50 percent of the WU. From all appearances, the WU appears to be crunching just fine, so I don't know if this is a "real error" or a fluke. (It looks like I may have lucked into a way of getting around the problem of 6338 WUs that refuse to start executing - just keep sending those error reports to Microsoft until the a_4 core starts crunching. I'm a genius!!)

The log report follows. I tried to get a copy of the System info but I couldn't highlight and copy the information. (In case I need to do this in the future, how do you go about killing [stopping] a slot and dumping a WU?)

That's what happend sometimes on my Windows8, and on brothers PC, the core would crash few times and sometimes it would start to fold. Could not reproduce this on my dayily used Windows7, it would always crash and never start to fold.

BTW, with this kind of problems if i keep returning those WU as falty, and keep getting more P6338, could my successfull return units ratio drop below 80%, meaning i would not get QRB bonus anymore? Or that this counts as proper return?. Im considering stopping using SMP slot because of that, and switch to Uniprocesor to not getting any more of those (i think those are SMP 2 units only, not sure about Uniprocesor)

So do I understand correctly that the GPU can fold just fine by itself and the CPU can fold just fine by itself but when both are folding, a multitude of problems show up that you attribute to WUs that don't "like" your machine?

It's sounding more and more like a system which either doesn't have a big enough power supply to run everything at once or a system that can't move the heat out well enough to keep temperatures under control when everything ts running at full power.

No, thats not what im saying at all (i don't really know how u got to this conclusion). GPU folding does not not have anything with this. Maybe i did not write that clear enough about GPU drivers which i reinstalled, and even checked older drivers, as P5-133XL sugested that errors might be related to problematic video driver(wanted to eliminate it as problem source). The problem is only with this project, doesnt matter if GPU is folding at the same time or not. Every other projects are folding fine even when both SMP and GPU slots are running. As for temperatures, well CPU and GPU is watercooled with 6x120mm fans on radiator and temps are below 50C when boths slots are folding.

I'm thinking if my machine had an actual hardware problem, I would be bombing every one of the 6338 WUs - along with WUs from other projects. If myself, JiiPee, and czeski are the only three who have reported problems, this is probably not a big deal. (In the case of czeski, since Windows 8 is a relatively new operating system, it's anybody's guess what may be going on there ...)

Although this WU benchmarked with no problems, we have noticed a higher-than normal error rate for this WU, and are looking into the problem. I hope to give an update soon. In the meantime, I'm putting further assignments of p6338 on hold. --Vince

Hi -- I've turned back on the p6338 project. I tried really hard to find anything that might be wrong with these p6338 WUs on our end of things, even re-running specific run/clone/gen WUs reported as bad. Simulation-wise (i.e. numerically) the simulations are stable and there are enough atoms per processor.

I had earlier said that there was a high error rate for these WUs, but in hindsight I'm not so sure (the statistics I was looking at also counted repeated returns). I'll try to compile a more complete picture of the actual error rate.
