New Highwater mark today. Look at that GPU client go! :)

Code: Select all

Mac OS X/PowerPC 7 8453
Mac OS X/Intel 23 7328
Linux 47 27688
GPU 94 1363
PLAYSTATION®3 1220 40403

GEEZUS!!! Look at those figures! RUNNING RED HOT!
Good to see the GPUs getting cranking.. and even more so for more active PS3 folders. I'd really love to see though a significant boost in the amount of active Windows participants.. For the amount of computers out there (most of them being Windows) .. theres not a lot of participants.

Holy crap, 1.6 PetaFLOPS! We need MORE power captain!

Call me ignorant, but where do you download the GPU2 client? Is there a linux version?

Scroll down to the bottom of the downloads page and hit the "beta" star.

And in answer to the Linux question: no.

Will there ever be one? I really don't want to go out and buy Windows just to run the GPU2 client.

Now that the client does not rely on DirectX there is more of a chance of there being a linux one... but idk if there is a version of AMD's CAL software for linux. If there isn't then the chances of there being a linux client will be next to nothing.

Yeah, what's up with this?
We went from <40k PS3s to >60k PS3s overnight? Somethings not right here.

wouldn't it have to do with the backlog of WUs being processed?
I've seen it over 2 Petaflops for 2 days now.. but i'm sure it will settle down soon.
Other than that.. i HOPE we have 60k active PS3 folders!!!

The thinking is that this is real.

Just before this, the total had dropped to around 1.4 PetaFLOPS and I think I recall the number of PS3 going down to around 33,000 but I may be mistaken and didn't capture the data from that lowwater mark. A stats delay wouldn't create new PS3 clients that aren't real.

A stats delay would delay the appearance of new PS3 clients on the client stats page. So it's possible there was actually a modest surge in the number of PS3 clients that got magnified by the stats delays since they showed up in a day rather than over the several days when the clients actually joined. The demise of HD-DVD has been known for some time by those following the issue. It's only over the last few weeks that HD-DVD players are getting removed from store shelves so I think the consumer reaction to the demise of HD-DVD only started in the last few weeks and still is in process. Fortunately for FAH, the best Blu-Ray player is still the PS3 for most purposes, especially if you want an upgradeable player that supports interactive Blu-Ray functions. The stand alone players are close to the same costs and typically more limited in functionality and upgradeability - few have ethernet ports... So the surge in PS3s is a bit of a pleasant surprise but plausible. We'll see over the coming days and weeks if it is in fact real. I believe and hope it is. Between the increase in PS3s and the new GPUv2 client it pushes FAH comfortably over the 2 PetaFLOP mark. I wasn't expecting that for another couple months.

A stats delay might cause some PS3 clients to go inactive by causing the return of their units to exceed 15 days. I don't know if client activity is captured by the receiving work timestamp for that WU, in which case a delay wouldn't or later, where it would.

I seem to remember the time listed for active PS3 being shorter before. The PS3 FAQ lists active PS3s as being 2 days, but I though it had been around a week for a while.

Active CPUS are defined as those which have returned WUs within 50 days. Active GPUs are defined as those which have returned WUs within 10 days (due to the shorter deadlines on GPU WUs). Active PS3's are defined as those which have returned WUs within 15 days.

I think you are right. I recall it was 3 days for active PS3s. Now it says 15 days. That could explain the increase in active PS3s, but the TeraFLOPS shouldn't increase if that is the case.

Actually this increase looks rather plausible based on these prior highwater marks. Looking at the growth over the three days from 4/14-4/17:

Code: Select all

OS Type New TFLOPS* New Active CPUs
GPU +18 (19%) +262 (19%)
PLAYSTATION®3 +37 ( 3%) +1213 ( 3%)
The Sat, 03 May 2008 12:03:54 data for GPU, PS3:

Code: Select all

OS Type Current TFLOPS* Active CPUs
GPU 131 1895
PLAYSTATION®3 1832 60673
Total 2231 304260
And the growth from 4/17 - 5/3 (16 days)

Code: Select all

OS Type New TFLOPS* New Active CPUs
GPU +19 (15%) +270 (17%)
PLAYSTATION®3 +575 (46%) +19057 (46%)

Next exercise... Analyze these as a per day rate...

whatevers doing it.. or if its indeed real stats...
I PREDICTED 2 PETAFLOPS BY JUNE!!!
well.. i said quite a while back somewhere round September 2007 around when we brok 1 Petaflop .. that we could expect 1.5 to 2 Petaflops by June as long as growth in active PS3 folders continue.
