It's not the same server ... you are having troubles with 171.67.108.13 and you posted in a thread about 171.67.108.20 ...

There have been a few reports of WU shortages. The News Blog says this will be fixed as the servers are put into production.

I recommend you work with us to figure out why you can't use V6. Some servers have WUs that work on either V5 or V6 and other servers are only for V6 so not being able to find work for your V5 client is going to be a bigger problem than if you could run V6.

Sometimes it takes a lot longer than the log shows to get a new WU.

In some cases, adding (or removing) the -advmethods flag might be helpful.

Be sure your client is configured to accept bigWUs unless you have a strong reason not to.

I guess we gobbled up there WU's for the GPU3 beta. Argh give us more work.

If it makes a difference I am from the UK.

Edit: Just got a WU :O

I just got a WU! WU-Hoooo!

It's 10626, I got it 7 minutes ago. (I got it after I stopped and restarted the client, but I had already done that several times before, so I think that is coincidence since it was in the wait period when I restarted the third or so time.)

Strictly speculating here, but it's possible that Development has intentionally limited the number of WUs available. They have to have time to read the problem reports, look at the results, etc. before deciding if there are any essential fixes that need to be made immediately or whether there's some sense of almost everything being in control.

Suppose there's a serious undiscovered bug. Would you want to be responsible for distributing millions of WUs that just crash and tie up resources? It's just safer to start slow.

From what I understand, those with older hardware can still run the older client -- the new client is only essential for Fermi. Nobody is going to object if the older GPUs keep testing, but likewise nobody is going to object if you switch back to GPU2. When I test something like this, I generally create two clients: one GPU2 and one GPU3 and then manually decide which one I want to run at the moment.

The driver update should not have done any damage to a GPU2 installation. (I didn't see any problem reports in response to the April 24, 2010 Blog report.

As is always the case, the successful upload of a result causes the server to generate a new WU.

Not receiving GPU3 WUs

Hello all,

I've been waiting for GPU3 as eagerly as anyone, so I installed the client when I found out it had been released, and have been running in on my GT 240 for the last 36 hours or so - in which time I've run around 10-12 GPU2 work units using FahCore_11. I uninstalled the last client, installed the latest Nvidia drivers, then downloaded the top link in Professor Pande's post in the announcements section. Here are pertinent numbers:

Card: GT 240 (512MB GDDR5)
OS: Windows 7 x64 Professional
Drivers: 257.15
F@H-GPU: 6.30r2, released 5/20/2010
Switches: large units allowed, -advmethods, -verbosity 9

I'd love to give running GPU3 work units a shot, unless the GT 240 isn't supported (it's identified in the client as Gpu type 2, species 30). I don't know if I'm doing anything wrong, or if there are just too few of those work units. I'm happy to keep running GPU2 units if that is deemed best, and I don't really care about points. However, I understand that the science will be improved in GPU3, so, if true, I want to get on it! :)

Thanks,

Posting part or all of your log around the error really helps. I can't get WU's right now either, for over the last hour, since [15:07:15] (8:07 am PDT). Looks like the work server is having some issues:

You called it..
There are just too few of the GPU3 / Core_15 work units.. It's the only thing the Fermi cards can run and my cards are plowing through them like nothing and then sitting around waiting 10 or 15 tries for it to pick up another one from the server..

The server can't dish them out fast enough... So go ahead and do your Core_11 units and sit happy while my GTX 400 series cards sit idle for a few minutes between workunits...

It is recommended to use the 197.45 Drivers. Right now you are using the BETA Drivers which right now aren't supported by GPU3 Client yet. Your card is capable of running both GPU2 and GPU3 Clients. Keep in mind that Fermi Cards (GTX 400 Series) can only use GPU3 Client with FAHCore_15 only. In your case, you are using GPU3 Client and because your GPU is Non-Fermi, you are getting WUs of FAHCore_11 and so far they have been successful. On my GTX 260 SOC, I was able to finish 6 FAHCore_15 WUs and after that, I am getting FAHCore_11 WUs and they all are running smoothly. I guess that the servers are reserving the FAHCore_15 WUs to give to Fermi users as the Development Team is concentrating on finding bugs in the FAHCore_15. I could be wrong but I am glad that so far, there aren't any major bugs with any Nvidia GPU yet.
