I have a copy of the log for my two WUs that were completed November 11, but you've indicated...

What else can be submitted to verify whether I've received proper credit?

.

PG will typically post when they are done running a manual recredit, but I say that from past experience and that is no guarantee of future performance. ;)

II believe that the re-crediting has been completed.

I don't know any way to know if a specific WU has been credited or not, but I'll ask.

Still have not received credit for one WU turned in on the 11th. If they are done with re-crediting, then I am providing this log excerpt so they can use it to maybe figure out what was not caught by their backup server and fix that for the future.

That would be disappointing. That would also mean that they have just stopped re-crediting points rather than actually completing it as saying 'completed' implies that the job is finished.I would have had not problem with just moving forward without a re-credit at all but I do have a problem with some people getting it and others not. If they were not going to be able to re-credit all the missing points they should have said so from the beginning. I have received about 3,000 of over 30,000 missing points. I don't care that much about the points but I do care when I'm being jerked around.

J_M, do you have PRCG numbers from missing WUs that one might be able to research in your example?

No - I don't have a whole lot of info nor would I be inclined to gather it. I do have simply the fact that I lost about 12,000 points one day and 15,000 or so the next (from a pretty steady average output of 15,000+ to 3000 one day and 0 the next without any clients throwing EUEs ). I have also added a 2000 ppd client since the server failure and my average is only now trending upwards of where it had been previously. Perhaps I need to make myself more clear though. I'm not all that concerned about the points - I assume that the statement by PG was correct that the sceince was still being received. I also believed the statement that all the data was available and all points would be restored. If the decision had been made that the points were lost and not recoverable it would have ended there for me but we have been told to expect a recredit. I now see that some people seem to have been fully restored and some have not and that the process may be completed. What I have an issue with is being told one thing while another appears to be true. As a volunteer for this project I would appreciate the truth and actual facts when issues like this occur rather than what is now starting to feel a lot like spin and PR statements.

Looks like i've only received about a third of what was missing. Trouble is i don't know which clients have been recredited and which haven't.

How do they go about the recredit, by server, by project number, by PG member, by time returned??

I Agree with what J_M says, We should have been told the truth about the recredit and the time that was going to take to get it sorted

Since many of us in the community have had what looks like a partial re-credit, it would be nice if we had some official comment from PG on this matter, there is only so much MODs can do.
I accept taht points will be "lost", just let me know.
Experience over 2.5 years shows that about 1% does not get credited fo one reason or another.

So if they know the WU was received, why is it so hard to look up the PRCG and place credit where it is due? Shouldn't it be a simple database query?

We had one team member (45104) receive 51000 points on 11/20, who also happens to be a new member, but showing a first record date of 11/15. His highest PPD other than that is 7017. That's certainly an anomaly if nothing else. How odd is it that his 51000 point spike occurred just as PG was supposed to be recovering data from the stats server after the 11/11-11/12 glitch?

Isn't using the passkey ID supposed to help avoid errors in points and WU allocation? I use a passkey. It didn't help me in any way that I know of.

Yeah, it's altruistic to say the points don't matter, and that it's all about the science. If points don't matter, then why bother with them at all?

From here on, you can dismiss me as a crackpot, paranoiac or just stupid if you wish. But I can't help speculating that there may be some benefiting from the work of others. If it's plainly arbitrary, then fine, I can live with that. But take the following into consideration before you flame me.

Teams are sponsoring contests with prizes being awarded on the basis of points. One in particular, folding@evga, number 5 in team standings with ~1000 active users, has an ongoing promotion, giving out credits towards EVGA product purchases and swag. Search on the phrase "folding@home contest" and see how many results you get. Google yielded about 536,000 unfiltered results today. AMD, PNY, EVGA, Nvidia and bunches of others, including web sites that sponsor teams, run contests. There could be legal ramifications if there isn't some greater effort made on the part of PG to comply with their own system. People are dangling more than "points" in front of possible donors in order to get them to participate.

Maybe PG says the re-crediting is completed, but that doesn't jibe with donor records, mine included. Transparency on the part of PG surely would not hurt in this instance. The lack of communication and assertions contrary to donor records of submissions could call into question the competency and/or integrity of those responsible for stats record keeping. Once again, I hope I'm wrong about this and it's just a simple glitch.

But some people cheat just because they can. Certain teams have brought in possible donors whose principle interest may be other than contributing to science, fragging their online opponents being their motivation instead. For some, a glitch may present an opportunity. And what if the stats server was hacked, and that's what caused the glitch? Microsoft's Xbox Live service just kicked off over 1,000,000 Xboxes for illegal modifications, a probable indication of enhancements made solely for the purpose of cheating.

But then one could also question if our efforts on 11/11 and 11/12 actually made any difference at all. What if entire WUs were actually lost, and that's really why there can be no re-crediting? If so, PG should just say that's what happened. But that comes back to competency, doesn't it?

I'm wondering if those aforementioned legal ramifications are what's keeping the information from flowing freely. Keeping one's mouth shut is the first, surest and easiest method of damage control.

I don't think any DB query on a data set that large is ever simple. Just the sort to divide up credited and uncredited WUs could take days, running across multiple servers.

And stop turning every unanswered points question in to a cheating paranoia. Teams have folding contests all the time. For example, Ars Technica participates in more than 2 dozen DC projects, and they probably have at least one contest running each month. Some contests are to win prizes, others are simply for bragging rights. And sometimes the prizes are even donated by corporate sponsors. It's paid advertising, not bribes or subversion.

Did you read the XBox article you cited? People modified their XBox to run copied / pirated software, not to cheat at points.

In your own words, "From here on, you can dismiss me as a crackpot, paranoiac or just stupid if you wish." Consider it done. ;)

With all your unsubstantiated claims, you wouldn't happen to work at Fox News would you?
