The new website is a major step in the right direction, the trick now is to keep some impetus on upgrading the whole site (the deeper pages) and keeping the site live - small frequent updates.

Between v7, the updated Wiki, the new site and good science this is an exciting time for the project.

++1 Excellent. Keep alive the page. Update. With little fresh news. That can be shared with the information window "About Project:" of V7.

Hmm. I get a "500 Internal Server Error error" when I try to view the image by itself. Google Chrome just displays a tiny default icon in place of the banner. Maybe it only works inside the Stanford network? I see 7im has trouble as well. Indeed it would be helpful if we had more people test it.

I don't see it either; bringing up the source gets me the 500 Internal Server Error, and on the stats pages themselves I see either a white rectangle with "Image" in it in Opera or the boxed red X in IE.

The banner seems to be working now, at least for my computer. If others are seeing this as well, thanks!

They changed the programming on the page to reference the same header picture from a different location. The page Jesse_V referenced earlier is working for me as well. The copy of the previous image link still is not, but no matter.

It should be fixed now.

Though the webpage overhaul a couple months ago is very nice and made the site much simpler, I noticed that the FAQ pages stayed pretty much the same. I was looking at the Main FAQ and noticed that there's a lot of really useful information there, but parts of it seemed a bit out of date, especially the stuff about the old screensaver client. I also thought that some of the answers could use some slight expansion or further explanations. I therefore copied the FAQ into my Wikipedia personal sandbox, and made an initial stab at providing some of the answers myself. It's fully editable by anyone, so if you've always wanted to change something in the Main FAQ, or if you feel that you can further improve the answers, feel free to edit away! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jessemv/sandbox I indicated a change by striking through the original text before putting my own text below it.

My copy-paste job only preserved the links where the URL was explicitly written in-text, but I added a few more links in as well. Also, I thought that some of questions were a bit out of order, so I moved them around. If you feel that there's a better order, feel free to move them yourself. It certainly is a very long FAQ, but then again there's a lot of potential questions to cover. The Errors section now only has one question in it though; the others didn't seem to be brought up much in this forum.

Currently if I want to access the publications page (http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers) I have to click on "Learn", and then "Project Results and Publications". Why not give it a link of it's own on the main page (I think the old website had a "Results" link)? It's a significant page, important enough to be given a link on the main page, and right now it's more difficult to find the page.

I know someone has posted about this. But I've become more assured that this would be a good thing. viewtopic.php?f=16&t=21700

Is "learn" too obtuse? Or maybe "search" was broken that day? Google offline?

You can't put everything on the front page. And I doubt that journal person even tried... Most people just want to be spoon fed answers.

On the main page
1. "What is protein folding?", I suggest adding a comma "While protein folding is critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology much of the process remains a mystery." to "While protein folding is critical and fundamental to virtually all of biology, much of the process remains a mystery."
2. "Why does it matter?", missing space "If we better understand protein misfolding we can design drugs andtherapies to combat these illnesses."

I know. But I'm quite sure that person wasn't the only one.
I was just making a suggestion.

Again, you can't put everything on the front page or it becomes too overwhelming. How do you pick which ones to include? What criteria to use for selection?

"It was on the old page" is not a reason.

Well newcomers might immediately want to see the end results before contributing. Again they can just see the "Learn" page, but busy people might not want to.
I won't complain more if it stays in Learn
