Core i7 --- folding help

Post by kliddo »

G.skill 1600mhz 6GB ram
i7 920
xfx gtx 260 black edition (666mhz)

everything is at their stock speed

Now i want to know which folding clients should i run to make the most out of it. I am going to leave it on 24/7.
And if, suppose i use 4 cpu clients but i still see my cores not being used 100% (excluding the ht cores), can i install more? and should i disable infinity locker?

You might check the existing thread on folding with the i7, for a discussion of using HT or not, which clients, etc. http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=7243

Hi, thanks for the reply.

While i read the first page of the thread, i have found out that i should be running 4 SMP client with GPU client. Use affinity tool also.

Is that it?

I will post on how my first SMP client is going. By the way, im using 64 bit vista, so i am stuck with one. So far, i am using one uniprocessor client, gpu and smp (all are not system tray clients)

I just started running a Core i7 920 under Linux this evening. It is overclocked to 3.4 GHz with HT on. In the config, advmethods and bigWUs are set and I'm running "-smp 8" on the command line. I am working on a 2669 WU right now and showing 3 minute frames for a PpD of around 9250.

I see one option to run 2 SMP clients if hyperthreading is enabled, but no advice to try more than that...

Unfortunately, when it comes to SMP, the Windows client is terribly inefficient compared to the Linux client. I'm running native Linux and this is the key to maximizing the potential of the Core i7.

you know what, i have heard that linux is great for folding. Since this computer is for folding, i might install linux in dual boot.

also going to get windows 7 :D

But i need instructions. Like which linux? where to go for this kind of stuff? i have never used linux before and if you can link me to the installation faq, it would be great.

Right now, im getting 300 on each, uniprocessor and smp client... I didn't set it up in dos. just run the program and it takes me to dos...

GETTING 7000+ ppd on gpu client. I can do better then that >.>
