Couple of questions from new user

Post by jamez »

- I'm running 2 clients (Nvidia GPU and CPU) and my stats say I have 1 Active Processor, is that right?

- The 'Display' option for the NVidia client shows real time progress, name, team, etc. which is cool but the CPU client does not show any information, just a graphic. Is there a setting somewhere to show this info?

Many Thanks

Welcome to the forums and the fold!

The active processor count in your stats refers to the number of processors that have returned completed work... my guess is that your GPU already completed a unit, but the CPU has not yet, as CPU units take much longer to process.

The display on all client versions is slightly buggy. I'm pleased that it works for you on the GPU client but I suspect your CPU client's viewer is not working properly... this is not your fault and there is annoyingly nothing you can do about it. :( Also as an aside all the viewers use very intense amounts of CPU time to draw them, so if you don't need to watch the viewer I recommend you keep it closed as much as possible.
Folding whatever I'm sent since March 2006 :) Beta testing since October 2006. www.FAH-Addict.net Administrator since August 2009.

At a guess the GPU client has returned a work-unit and the cpu client has not.
Stanford only counts clients, thats what the Active Processor count is, after they have returned work.

Its best not to use the GPU display as it take a lot of CPU time to animate, hence slowing the client down.
The CPU client doesn't have a display.
To monitor the clients use a 3rd party app like FahMon or FahSpy.

Luck ............. :D

If you do know that both clients have returned at least one WU, check the first page of FAHlog.txt. Be sure that the User Names are spelled identically, the Team No are the same, and if both clients are on the same copy of Windows, that the Machine IDs are different.

Many thanks everyone. Stats now showing 2 processors so it must have been the CPU taking longer to return results. I'll keep the display off if it means more folding, thanks for advice. It's nice to have it availble though as I've found that if friends/family see the display running they always ask what it is, when I tell them, they join! :-)

Running the display IS recommended if it's likely to interest others in running FAH.
