Missing WU

Post by birefringent »

My log file shows a successful upload on 21 Jul 08. My folding at home user page shows the last WU sent up was on the 19th. Also, while accessing my user page, the system returned an error message I've not seen before. It instructed me to inform the administrator. Did the work unit get there? Isn't the data file still in the /work directory? Can't it be resent?

No, once the data has been sent, it isn't in you /work directory and it cannot be re-sent. If it was not actually uploaded (e.g.- if the server is down) the results WILL stay in the /work directory and will the upload will be automatically retried periodically.

Look in FAHlog.txt at the beginning of the WU and give us the four identifying numbers Project, Run, Clone, and Gen. Then look at the end of the WU for the message that says "Thank you...."

Also, look back at the last time that the client was restarted. Does it show the proper UserName and Team number?

The "Thank you..." implies a successful ACK. The code at this end thinks the WU was captured. The report code at the server shows no update.

Somewhat notable is that the total number of completed WU in the log is less than the total I've actually completed (the number reported on my user page). Its been that way since a few months after I started folding. Early on the console code was unstable. It stabilized on its own after a dozen or so WUs . Until then there were many re-installs.

I hope the unit made it through. And I hope I get my points.

If you install the client on more than one computer, each client counts the number of WUs that it has competed independently of the others. The user page reports the total. When you re-install, the client often is configured as if it were a new install on another machine, restarting the local count from zero. Whatever you completed on an earlier install will still be included in the total.
