Even without gpus.json, client should have detected a GPU.
By the way, client will regularly try to download new version of gpus.json, regardless if there is new version or not. So be mindful of that

P.S. I hope gpus.json will not corrupt you with Western influence :D

As soon as I turned on the VPN, everything came back to life and worked as expected.
Apparently, the problem was internet blocking on my end.
But now everything works as expected.
Perhaps my experience will be useful to other users.

I have same issue- Win11, 8.5.5 detects gpu (is listed and checked in settings) but says "waiting for gpu detection" w hourglass on main status screen and no folding. Ran fine w prev v8, just upgraded. Upgraded Nvidia driver for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, removed FAH, reinstalled, cannot sort it out.

UPDATE- uninstalling and selecting to remove DATA as well then reinstalling solved the issue.
