APU support in Linux

It seems that a lot of GPU problems revolve around specific versions of drivers. Though AMD has their own support structure, you can often learn from information reported by others who fold.

Post by nada391 »

yes, but it too slow being Vega10^?

viewtopic.php?p=358454&hilit=apu#p358454

or do i still need specific driver also for APU?
Ubuntu does let APU function beautify out-of-box.

It will not get too many WUs, but in the future it might be useful.

however, after 1st completion,

it seems the laptop/desktop no longer receiving tasks;
does the computer need to be operated for getting tasks on ubuntu or why would it stall?
because the GPU is slow?

since yesterday or since completion of 1st WU the stats page show it stuck at 0%.
do i need to interact with the comoputer?

As soon as a project is available for it, it will receive the project. Nothing is wrong with your setup. I get the same with my rather old GTX 780M.

You can leave it running like it is and it will automatically pick up compatible work units when they become available.

this rocm-opencl-sdk made the mini-pc quite unstable;
maybe this can work with newer APU better, but had to get rid of it;
or it could be specific to this MiniPC.

Thanks for the help.

very unstable,
with both 22.04 or 24.04 alike ( and respective amdgpu-install_6.2.60203-1_all.deb driver command)

on 24.04 error like

Code: Select all

Event logged [invalid_device_request] device=0000:04:00.0 pasid=0x08003 address=0x7ac34b000004 flags=0x0503
or the like.

Let me ask around. This event logged, what were you doing with iGPU when that happened?

You can also use rocm 5.7.3. FAH doesn't really care which rocm-opencl-sdk you are gonna use

It is possible that those iGPUs are not supported with latest builds

this happened after login,
screen froze, and error screen went on uninterruptedly.
do you mean amdgpu-install 5.7? is this even compatible with 24.04.02 lts?

https://repo.radeon.com/amdgpu-install/5.7.3/ubuntu/

focal and jammy only. But then again, with hardware this old, it is really not necessary to run bleeding edge distros.

Also, you can try uninstalling amdgpu driver and let kernel built in driver do its work. There are some guides on internet how to do it.
In this case you would only need to manually add radeon repo for rocm only and see how that works out
