Coming back to F@H and issue with stats.

Post by Cynanthrope_Lurks »

I have come back to folding after many years and yesterday, I completed a work unit. However, it has not shown up in my stats even though it has been credited. I have attached some images to show what I'm trying to say. I also would like to know whether I should be pausing work units before I shut down my laptop or not, as it seems that work units are abandoned when I have to shut down to go to bed. Any help would be greatly appreciated and I look forward to your reply.

With Windows pause the client before you shutdown. The client has code to have Windows wait while it shuts down processing of WUs, but Much of the time Windows doesn't wait. The improper termination of the WU processing leaves them unable to be resumed when the client is restarted as part of your system startup. They get dumped and new WUs downloaded.

To figure out what is happening to credits we would need more information. If you could post the beginning section of your log and the Project, Run, Clone and Gen numbers of some recently returned WUs.

Credits in the stats are not instant. Everything is on delays

Is this really the fault of Windows? This Z600 with 2x Xeon X5660 folding on 12 cores total is the only device on which I do CPU folding. It is also my usual workhorse. After always losing a couple of WUs in this way (eg when something goes wrong in another app and you re-start in a hurry) the last straw was when I lost a 98% complete WU. I gave up on 8.4.9 and went back to 7.6.21. I still try to remember to pause before shutting down but I have forgotten twice and 7.6.21 seems always to resume where I left off or at the last checkpoint or whatever.

Yes, it is a Windows problem. The client does not have the same issue with shutdowns on Linux or macOS. It was a problem with v7 as well, 7.6.21 has all of the changes to minimize this happening and there still were reports of WU corruption and dumping when Windows shutdown without pausing folding first.

The CPU folding core is less likely to do this, but there have been reports in the past under various v7 versions including 7.6.21.
