PPD nowhere near estimate?

Post by rudyauction509 »

Currently running I9 14900k and RTX 5080. My estimated PPD averages around 25,000,000 (as displayed on work units, 7,000,000 in stats), yet it's taken me over a month at an average of 12-14 hours per day (I've left it running 24/7 several times) to reach just 28m points. I'm churning out successful WU's like crazy, but my points are barely increasing. Is this normal? I just created a passkey to collect bonuses, do those bonuses really multiply points earned by 20+ times?

PPD displayed is Points Per Day. That means that's the amount of points you would get if you folded 24h a day. If you are not folding 24 hours per day, PPD will drop dramatically. The quicker you return the WU, the more points you can get. Passkey is enabled after 10 successful WUs returned without fail, and staying above 80% of return rate.
I hope I understood what you were actually asking for, since it is very hard to guess what you mean "barely" or "like crazy". For some, "barely" might mean 5 point increase a day, for others, 10m points increase per day. For some "like crazy" might be 2 WUs per day, for other 25 WUs ;)

Yes, the base credit really is much lower. I see you're folding GPU projects 18224, 18227, 18230, 18237. Respectively, these have a base credit of 207k, 101k, 143k, and 68k points. Each GPU WU looks like it's being completed in roughly 50 minutes, so that's very roughly 16 WUs per day at 12-14 hours of folding. For the projects you're folding, that's between 1M and 3M PPD, depending on base credit. And that's assuming you never pause a WU overnight! So over a month to get 28M points? Sounds about right.

The problem will be totally solved when your bonus activates (after 10 successful WUs as muziqaz says).

The bonus can be the difference between under 100k points and over a million points per WU, because the base credit does not scale with your GPUs speed.

Base credit is not governed by passkey bonus.
It is set in stone before the release and then bonus formula does its job, upon WU completion.

But the bonus uses the base credit as a multiplier, right? The base credit does not change, but the bonus credit is not independent of it.

Base credit is part of the formula, yes, but base credits are set per project, not per WU. So if one user gets that same project as the other, both have the same base credit. Claiming that base credit is too low is not up to end user :)
The misconception hereight be that user somehow sees end credit after EU is finished. That is called estimated credit and is not the same as the base credit, and it is affected by time it takes to complete the WU. Estimated credit is no longer visible in V8 client
