web client showing no machines after installing 8.3.18

Post by randoPrime »

I am trying to get back into folding, last time I did was in v.7 with the control panel app. Using M1 Pro MacBook Pro.

After successfully installing the 8.3.18 pkg file, I navigated to https://v8-3.foldingathome.org/machines via Chrome, and it shows there are no machines available for folding. I feel like I am missing a step. Suggestions? Any additional information needed from me? Thanks in advance, I am looking forward to getting folding again.

Some servers have moved, which may be causing you some trouble.

I just tried the link you're using and got a "no machines" message.

I clicked on Login in and they all showed up.

Also, https://v8-4.foldingathome.org/machines works better & nicer.

Even without login the local client should show up.

Yes, that is why I am posting with this question. haha
Here is what I see after logging in: https://imgur.com/a/tTHfxyV

That is from Chrome after logging in.

What else can I provide which could help to solve my issue? I am happy to do what I can.

edit: the last time I folded was a couple of years ago. Could the fact that I used the same login before be causing an issue, I.e. could it think my computer is already being 'allocated'? Not familiar with the assignment process of machines and such, if that wasn't already apparent.

Check that fah-client is running in Activity Monitor. Set it to show all processes for all users.

True when you have a local client .... I don't on the computer I use to run web-control.

However that's not helpful .... what do you see when you click on the little figure above news?

Apologies, missed your previous request.

I do have a recurring error; 'Websocket connection to 'ws://127.0.0.1:7396. index78d84421.js:3643 /apiwebsocket' failed: '

Update: I DO have it running now, but it is on the OLLLLLD site with a login I am okay with abandoning. Got it working by re-downloading the 7.x FAH control app for the Mac, which is no longer supported I believe. Don't know how to tell this one to stop and have it work on the new 8.x page.

You just need to install v8. It will upgrade v7.

I did install v.8 via this link for Mac:
https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/

There was no new Mac controller app that got installed.

There is no controller app. Just the web app.
