FAH-Client 8 not working on Ubuntu Server

I installed fah-client 8.4.2 on my headless Ubuntu server but I am having difficulty getting it up and running.

Fah-client installed without issue and the service is running:

I added the following lines to file /etc/fah-client/config.xml:

Not sure if this is the correct way to go with the config.xml file.
Should I have just left it at its default?:

I created a account at: https://beta.foldingathome.org/account (from another PC on our network).
Once the account was created and I logged in I see under the Machines tab:
No folding machines found.

Login or install the Folding@home client software.

The laptop is not folding, the CPU is idling.

I also tried to log into https://beta.foldingathome.org/machines using elinks and lynx on the Ubuntu server via SSH but it just produces a blank page.
Not sure if this was necessary, on our Internet router I port forwarded 7396 to the fah-client laptop.


How to I get fah-client folding and the web interface to show the machine?

No idea. v8.4.2 is an Alpha build, problems with it need to be reported on Github. It is not a public Beta.

You should use the prebuilt debian package on alpha download page.

You should create your config.xml before installing for best results.

The web control url for 8.4 is

The client log shows the preferred web control url:

I don't think fah-client on your server is able to reach the api server
https://api.foldingathome.org/

The client can't register its existence without the PUT to api server.

Don't use alpha client.
