We reached the end? Is it time to start learning about and playing with AI at home?

Re: No work assigments...
It has affected 4070's as well as my 3060. So might be more wide spread.toTOW wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 6:54 am I alerted the researchers. The WU shortage motly hits high end GPUs (nvidia species 9 and 8) as far as I know.
edit : the server status page is here : https://apps.foldingathome.org/serverstats
Thanks for getting this going, looks like from trending on mine and others points it may have started 2 days ago.

Will have to see how quickly they can work on adjusting this. It is a time of year that is very busy. For example both UPenn and Temple are in their first week of classes for the Fall semester.

Re: No work assigments...
I would definitely impart that things like this (problems) are bad for the community of people that support the project. I commit a good amount of hardware and electricity to the project and out it 2 things are fun and satisfying -
1. Helping science move forward with possible discoveries
2. Gamification and fun processing for points
Item one clearly out weights two, that being said I would hope the people on the project and scientists using the resources could solve these issues with as much priority as many of the people here do to keep the systems running. As I said, the amount of money and time I put into keeping things running, adding computing resources as I can afford and cringing every electric bill (significant) makes me expect the same priority of getting a fix in otherwise people will take their computing resources elsewhere.
BTW this is my own opinion, no one else, but I feel some of the same sentiment that other contributors have here and in other threads.
Again, not trying to be a pain, love what is going on here and that I can contribute, but sometimes makes me think twice about things getting fixed when it affects a large scope of people.
Thanks always for passing the info along to the devs.

Looks like the logjam has broken somewhat, as the 209.202 server has work.

Re: No work assigments...
Maybe improved, but just saw a 4090 sitting idle and it just looked for a WU about 5 min before this post, down for about 30min. Hopeful that it's being looked at and just the back off retry logic keeping the process from retrying.[Ars] For Caitlin wrote: ↑Wed Aug 30, 2023 7:16 pm Looks like the logjam has broken somewhat, as the 209.202 server has work.

Still broken, 2 4090's and 4070 sitting idle on and off most of the day.

I have only one Ready at the moment.
To answer your former question. Is fine. You can see how much have I donated, I have also directly donated a couple thousand dollars directly to the sponsoring not-for-profit foundation. Is charity of my GPUs and underlying systems/networks.
If there is no more work to do, that’s fine, just let us know and I will start playing with AI like I keep meaning to.

Re: No work assigments...
likely a topic for another thread but I feel a real lack of information and progress for the work being done these days. Not much news or in 'regular' folks terms the progress that we are helping with. Almost feels like a lack of transparency here. Site is rarely updated with much news, etc. Sadly this is one of the few projects that I can really get behind, but really a tidbit of progress, again in layman's terms as to what is getting accomplished. This is the something as a minimum I would expect, not some jargon that I can't really (or many) can understand. This project has the smell of something that has started to run it's course I'm afraid. Felt this for a bit now. I'll save the full rant for a bit later, but not super thrilled about the state of things here.

Re: No work assigments...
Is Windows and Linux treated differently? I started them both up a couple of hours ago and the Windows box has been getting WUs whereas the Linux box has not, both have a 4070 Ti as GPU.
The Windows box has a 9900k and the Linux a 12700F - though CPU folding is disabled on both so not sure why that would be relevant.

Re: No work assigments...
Not sure if the OS matters, I see the problem on both, more so with the RTX40XX cards. I have linux running the 4090's and 4080's, and windows running 4070 and 3060. All seem to have had the problem in the last couple of days. Seems more noticeable on the 40xx cards, but hard to say.Alex_Atkin wrote: ↑Thu Aug 31, 2023 3:42 am Is Windows and Linux treated differently? I'll have to check the logs on the other 2 window machines I'm running to see how they are doing, but don't think O/S matters as my best guess.

Re: No work assigments...
BTW I have been stopping folding via the WebUI and watching logs and it does seem to have a side effect at least causing the the client to hit the WU severs again. If you don't it seems to have a geometric back off to prevent flooding of the server that dispatches where the work comes from, or something like that. It doen't work all the time, and is a pain, but can help with a quicker restart and getting a WU.

Of course Windows Update reboots during a WU download, thanks Microsoft.
Seems like it did complete the download as its folding but the client is confused and downloaded a second WU anyway. :/

Seems to better tonight. Getting a lot of high point values as well.

Better, but still have a 3090 not running. Been a few days and not much word on what is going on, or what to expect. That I do not understand.
