GPU stuck on Ready or Failed

HI there,

I'm new to this community, some friends of mine talked about it and I started right away.

I created my account last Monday, and since then I NEVER had my GPU folding. I work from home, so must of the day my PC is running and looks like my GPU doesn't exist for the FAHControl.

I already read about identical problems, unnistall the GPU drivers and installed the last ones, and yes I know that the number off people folding was grown like never before. But I have friends that only turn on their PCs in 2-3 hours and they always using the GPU, in the same time I only make 1/2 WU with my CPU.

Sometimes my GPU starts a WU, but in less than 1/2 minutes the WU stops and the GPU becomes "ready" again.

Also I have an UPS powering my PC, and when the GPU starts something the UPS starts the fan, but I can read the power that the UPS is providing to the PC and never went above 60%. I really want to help the community with my PC, and can't use the most powerfull part, my GPU. Hope that someone can help me.

I'm running the Intel i7-5820K and GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

Folding@home's userbase has increased about 10x over the past several weeks, which has flooded the servers under the load and exhausted workunits faster than they can be generated. When the queue is empty, the server says "No WUs available for this configuration". The research teams are rapidly setting up new servers and getting more projects into the queue, including for the Wuhan Coronavirus, so hopefully that can keep up with demand soon. In the meantime, keep everything running and the software should pick up workunits when they are available.
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.

Did you even read the post Jesse? He is getting unit that are failing instantly. This is usually a driver problem. Were the drivers installed by windows? Windows does not include the opencl drivers and that looks like your problem, if you got them from the card manufacturer you need the full install if you didnt.

That's definitely not normal behavior. Yes there the starving for work unit thing going on too, but it's definitely failing .

I agree with Rel. Looks like messed up drivers. Do a full driver uninstall, reboot, and re-install from Nvidia's website. I am folding on a 1080 Ti right now with the latest Nvidia drivers, no problem.

Yes. Today in the mornig I unnistall the drivers, and went to NVIDIA site and download the Gamers Ready Drivers from the scratch, and made a clean install.

EDIT: I went to Computer Management - Device Manager - Display Adapters - Driver Details, and I can see some ".....OPENCL.dll."

Hi there,

so after your feedback, I installed the DDU to unnistall all the nvidia drivers. Made another clean full install from Nvidia site, again.

In this process also unnistall the FAH Control and installed it again.

After this morning, without touch the PC, I have the same probleme. Only the CPU works.

[Don't know what I can do.

is the card in any way overclocked?

Download GPU-z

once running, there is a little question mark halfway down on the right hand side. It will open a window with a box saying "Start Render Test". Open the Sensors tab on the main GPU-Z window which will show you temperatures etc. Then start the render test. It's not a stress test per se but it will give your card a little work to do. See what the sensors go to.

If that all looks OK, you might need to get another stress test for your GPU and check it works properly.

Sadly, games aren't nearly as challenging to the GPU as Folding@Home. It may be that your card is unable to fold reliably. It does happen.

It appears you've got the newest 442.74 driver, which is from 03.19. Usually having the newest drivers is a good thing, but sometimes it also can break existing stuff. If nothing else helps, you may try and install a slightly older driver, for example https://www.nvidia.com/download/driverR ... 7537/en-us

I already thin about that option, but I don't know what version to install. And at least yerterday someone say that have the same gpu with the latest drivers and the GPU foldes like a champ.

Current I have the version 442.74, and I got them from Nvidia offical site. And also made a clean install. Before the install I used the DDU program.
