The second post at the top of this topic may be the "easy and safe way to fix it. (It's a sales-pitch for you to install their software.) Presumably it works. Personally, I don't like to install software from a unknown source and then worry about removing the clutter produced.
I would use the registry editor as described above -- (assuming you're not drunk out of your head.) It's very straightforward. And if you decide you want to restore the backup you made, that, too, is straightforward.
