The SETDB1 protein methyltransferase is a putative epigenetic therapeutic target for a number of cancers, including melanoma, breast, colorectal, and prostate. Roles in Huntington's disease and schizophrenia have also been hypothesized. This project is looking at the dynamics of the fragment of SETDB1 containing Tudor domains. These read the presence of other epigenetic marks and hence direct SETDB1 to particular genes. We are exploring the possible small molecule binding modes of the Tudor domains for the design of allosteric chemical probes of SETDB1. Thanks folks!
