I contacted Sony mobile support:

We are very sorry that you are having an issue with finding the application on Google play store as the application was in fact developed by Sony in cooperation with a different Companies.

However the app was created to achieve a certain Aim/Goal and it is currently off the market until further notice.

If you would like to get further information we would suggest that you visit our developer section on our support website.

But it is still available using the QR-Code

A page "about" the OpenSource version exists but I don't see a button where I can download/install the application on my phone. Does is still work only on Sony branded phones or has somebody compiled it for my Samsung phone?

I would not say it only works on Sony phones, but rather that the closer your device acts like a Sony phone, the better it runs.
None of my devices are Sonys, but they run F@H.

On a technical level, if your device has big.LITTLE CPUs, the current version won't run.
