F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
My ppd is usually 40k but I get the occasional 12k ppd from folding a dif WU BUT after I finished one today it said 60 ppd so I uninstalled it and re installed it now it doesn't even load up or show anything? it just loads up web control which I HAVE to fold with CPU when I only want to fold with GPU but I can't change the slots because the icon doesn't show up anymore is there a way to fix this ? please help.

Re: a.k.a the taskbar
also when I close it and re open it it starts a new WU so I lose all my progress
Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
Did you install with the same setting as before?
Start + All_Programs + FAHClient + FAHControl
You can copy that shortcut to the desktop.

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
I have already done this but as soon as I close FAHControl and FAHClient when I re-open it it starts on a new WU also FAHClient I can only view on my web browser because it doesn't show on the taskbar as I said abovebruce wrote:Did you install with the same setting as before?

Please post the log showing it interrupting and starting a new WU.

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
I don't know how to find where on the log it is but I found a way to get around it I just pause the WU when I'm going to do something and I keep FAHControl minimized and just don't switch my pc off because I fold overnight anywaybruce wrote:Please post the log showing it interrupting and starting a new WU.

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
Are you concerned about FAHClient (Windows) or about the NaCl client that runs inside of Chrome?
I'm glad you found a work-around that works for you. I'm still concerned that you may lose WUs occasionally and if it's FAHClient, I am still willing to pursue it if you are. For the NaCl client, the deadlines are very short so killing a WU was not considered to be important during Development. The best option is to set it to finish the current WU and stop.

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
Nothing wrong with NaCl it doesn't take long to finish a WU before the deadline I've never taken to long to fold a WU even when I pause them to play games during the day they've been in on timebruce wrote:Are you concerned about FAHClient (Windows) or about the NaCl client that runs inside of Chrome?

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with NaCl ... it's aimed at a different group of Donors than the V7 client. I just want to be sure we're talking about the same thing.K0NR4D wrote:nothing wrong with NaCl it doesn't take long to finish a WU before the deadline I've never taken to long to fold a WU even when I pause them to play games during the day they've been in on time.bruce wrote:Are you concerned about FAHClient (Windows) or about the NaCl client that runs inside of Chrome?
I'm glad you found a work-around that works for you. I'm still concerned that you may lose WUs occasionally and if it's FAHClient, I am still willing to pursue it if you are. For the NaCl client, the deadlines are very short so killing a WU was not considered to be important during Development. The best option is to set it to finish the current WU and stop.
To post a log, follow the link at the bottom of my first post. For Windows, see item 4.
That's a good start.I do not know about logs so here are 2 txt files that were in the logs folder
In that log, you started with a default configuration of two slots, one of which used 3 CPUs, and the other of which used your GTX750 and the other CPU. That's consistent with the slider set to FULL.
IWork resumed on WUs that had previously been downloaded into each slot. Before long, you removed the CPU slot aborting that WU [CLIENT_DIED / INTERRUPTED (102 = 0x66)] so we'll be talking only about the GPU slot.
First, notice the message 09:38:10:WU01:FS01:0x17: Found a checkpoint file. This DOES indicate that a checkpoint had been successfully written while processing that WU during a previous run. Consequently processing resumed with no need to download a new WU.
During the course of this log, I see several error messages indicating the WU was aborted, which is consistent with your report of getting a new assignment. Nevertheless, something strange is happening.
Progress was made until
12:17:37:WU01:FS01:0x17:Completed 1250000 out of 5000000 steps (25%) followed by 12:19:59:WARNING:WU01:FS01:FahCore returned: FAILED_2 (1 = 0x1)
Do you suppose you thought you shut down something? If so, why don't I see a paused message?
In any case, work resumed with the message
12:20:00:WU01:FS01:0x17: Found a checkpoint file
to be followed by
12:29:33:WARNING:WU01:FS01:FahCore returned: FAILED_2 (1 = 0x1)
and again:
12:29:34:WU01:FS01:0x17: Found a checkpoint file
12:29:37:WARNING:WU01:FS01:FahCore returned: FAILED_2 (1 = 0x1)
12:29:37:WARNING:WU01:FS01:Too many errors, failing
12:29:37:WU01:FS01:Sending unit results: id:01 state:SEND error:FAILED project:9201 run:835 clone:3 gen:278
(As in the previous cases, some progress was made between the two FAILED_2 messages.)
Perhaps your GPU is overheating. Perhaps your power supply is too small. Perhaps your GPU is overclocked. Perhaps your system is entering sleep/hibernate mode. Perhaps (something else).
This second log actually preceded the first one but only covers 15 minutes of elapsed time. It showed you making a number of configuration changes, but that's not unexpected if a person chooses to run the V7 client somewhat differently than the default configuration.and here is the other one
What is troubling is that there are several messages from the GPU saying FAILED_2 (1 = 0x1). We need to figure out the cause of the condition that initiates that message.
What IS true is that both logs show continued progress on a single WU: Project: 9201 (Run 835, Clone 3, Gen 278) and except for having "too many errors" a partial result was uploaded.
Yes, we need to figure that out, along with the two other issues identified herein. Also I tried installing an older version of F@H because of the WU restarting each time I loaded up the FAHClient but I didn't know how to make it so only my GPU folds so I re installed the newest FAHClient configured it so only my GPU folds again I just do not know how to have the icon come up on the taskbar again and have it running without having web control or FAHControl open like I used to.
1) Why do you think new WUs are starting rather than the old one restarting?
2) What is causing FAILED_2.

Yes, we need to figure that out, along with the two other issues identified herein.
1) Why do you think new WUs are starting rather than the old one restarting?
2) What is causing FAILED_2.[/quote]
Well it hasn't happened again since that time I tried closing FAHClient Control today and re opening it and it resumed I just wonder why I can't have it like I first got it so I could launch Folding@Home instead of the FAHControl to run it and have the icon down the bottom. My GPU isn't overclocked as far as I know. I don't think it's overheating? my computer is always very cold there's 5 or 6 fans and it's only a midi tower. Also the thing I was saying before about having like a 60 ppd changed after about 10mins to 40,000 again just don't know why I can't use the normal shortcut to Folding@Home instead of FAHControl and I don't know exactly what FAILED_2 is.

Re: F@H 7.4 doesn't show icon on bottom right of screen
Hey is there also a command or something I can put in my client so I only fold those 44,000 WU's instead of 2 5,600 WU's every second day?

Not really. The project determines the work assignments.

Oh okay so it's just luck if you get a bigger one so you get more points per day7im wrote:Not really. The project determines the work assignments.

Normally the lower points WUs are smaller and quicker, so the points per day (PPD) should be roughly the same for all WUs on similar hardware (Note that GPUs do more science than standard CPUs, so get more points). The major exception is that the "Quick Return Bonus" is not applied to Core_15 WUs, so a GPU running Core_15 will get much lower PPD than the same GPU running Core_17 or higher. Users cannot select which cores are used (other than by running Linux rather than Windows to avoid Core_15).

On my slower GPUs, the core_15 WUs actually get higher PPD than the newer core_17s. So not every rule is hard and fast. Bigger WUs don't get more points per day, or less, they take longer to complete. More total points, but divided over more total days, all averages out about the same with 1 small WU per day, or 1 large WU over several days.
