F@H V 7.4.4 Will not work

Can you please post the log file showing the download of the WU and the attempted download of a FahCore? Do note that the previous 16 logs are saved in the logs Folder by default so you can still get them.

If the "old" folder is roaming/FAHClient then where is the "new" folder? It sounds like a path issue which could be why your installations didn't work.

Do note that the WU defines what FahCore and version to use so you aren't missing out by the "old" FahCore. It will update it in future if necessary. However, I would strongly suggest that you set the client to Finish and then uninstall everything F@H related and proceed with a fresh installation of a single user with default settings and see what happens.

Allow me to clarify.

To be safe, I copied my old FAHclient folder to my desktop, then install version 7.4.4.
I then copied the core folder from my FAHclient folder on the desktop, to the new one in appdata/roaming/FAHclient.

As for the log file of the WU being downloaded..... It is gone.
Likely becasue I have re-installed and restarted the client many many times in the past hour to try and get this fixed.

All I have is the one showing the core download:

If you have to mess with config files there is something wrong with how you are installing the client. If you follow the install guide you don't ever need to mess with config files.

I simply click on "Custom Install" then simply click next until it copies the files.

That way it'll install F@H only for my account.

It does not matter anyway. F@H has NEVER made a "config.xml" file for me. (At least version 7.4.0 and up IIRC)
So to get around that, I simply rename "sample-config.xml" to "config.xml" then configure the client to my needs.
IIRC that's how I made my first config file when I first installed F@H.

Okay, in future, just remember to make a backup of the log file and log folder since it may contain some information. The log is showing a normal message. How long did you wait? If Advanced Control is loosing connection, then it means that some security application (firewall) might be causing an issue. You can still directly view the log file by opening in in a text editor (you may have to reload the text file as it will be updated).

Extremely weird. Whenever I delete a config.xml, upon starting up, a new one is always created which contains this:

Is there something unique about your system, for example, is it heavily modded to allow installation of third party themes or tweaks done to make the system faster, etc?

I waited at least 10 minutes... Still nothing happened.
Aslo, if I delete config.xml then start F@H, it does this all over again... Meaning FAHclient.exe starts but nothing happens.
If I put the config.xml file back, all is kosher and it runs fine...

As for modding my OS, nope.
The only thing funky about it is this: It came preinstalled on my original hard drive as Windows 7 x64 Home Premium.
Since I'm in college, I get free Windows serial keys, so I used "Anytime upgrade" to upgrade my Windows to Ultimate Edition. But Any time upgrade said that It's "not applicable to my machine" or something. Yet after a reboot, it upgraded it to Ultimate Edition anyway.
Although I will admit, I'm due for a fresh clean install... It's just a lot of work :p

The only "tweaks" are imaging the OS onto a RAID 0 array, and overclocking the BCLK and forcing a 33x multiplier via Intel's "Limited overclocking" on non K chips.

By chance, did you directly view the log file during the 10 minutes to see if anything was being written or not?
Maybe it is an installation issue which might be preventing FAHClient from creating a new config.xml since I can't reproduce it on any of my systems.

I was running V7.2.9 on RAID 0 and never encountered any issues and don't have any reason to think that V7.4.4 would be any different. Make sure that your RAID Drivers are fully updated and that there aren't any known issues in them. For troubleshooting reasons, could you remove any kind of overclock/tweaks and see if it makes any difference or not? Maybe a particular setting is being indirectly effected by your tweaks causing random issues, components might be stressed beyond their specification so may generate random errors (lack of sufficient cooling system), etc. The less variables there are in the problem, the easier is gets to solve it (hopefully).

Grabbing newest Intel RST drivers now.

I removed the core folder and started the client, advanced control "lost connection" and I'm keeping an eye on the log file.
I'll report back soon.

Since you don't have any WUs assigned to your system now, maybe you can perform a fresh installation of V7.4.4 and see what happens (once you have installed the Intel RST Drivers and have updated Windows).

I do have a WU assigned to me, but I figured out that if I move the "work" folder to the desktop, I can save the WU from being deleted

Anyway, I just did a fresh install of version 7.4.0 and 7.4.4, both version did not make a config.xml file!
However, the installer for version 7.1.52 makes a config.xml files for me so that works without a hitch.

Oh, and even though the log says

There is still no config.xml file.

This is so weird. 7.4.4 installed and worked fine on my laptop. It started folding right away.....
Maybe it is just my Windows installation?

Like we've said before, not creating a config file is not normal. It works every time I have ever installed it. So yes, this is an issue specific to this computer.

The more I look at it, the more likely that explanation becomes....
At this point, Version 7.4.4 is running and folding fine.....

What do you guys think, safe to say my OS is borked enough to be causing this?

That is good to know. At least, by manually creating a config.xml, the FAHClient is functionally properly. However, let's hope that it functions properly in the future too.

So far, we have only seen unusual issues with only F@H. If you encounter issues while running other applications, then it would be a safe bet. Personally, I would suggest a clean installation assuming that the OS was loaded with "free stuff" which virtually no-one uses. I have read that occasionally, some of those "extra stuff" may cause issues in the future. Some vendors have a restore partition which you can use but be careful since it may contain the "extra stuff" so in that case, a full format and installation is the best method to proceed.

Hopefully the new install is in directory with the right permissions. The screenshot at the top of this topic reports
CWD: C:\Program Files (x86)\FAHClient
which is what indicated that you were not using the proper shortcut. Presumably it's now something different. It would probably be helpful to see an updated version of those first few pages of the log.

No no, that screenshot was when I ran FAHclient.exe directly.
As in, I went to the FAH install directory and double clicked on FAHclient.exe.

Which I now know is incorrect

Lemme get a more informative screenshot in that first post.

So for those reading this thread, here is the issue & solution.

First, FAH would not make a config.xml file for me, then it would not download the core files needed to fold.

SOLUTIONS:
1. Browse to %APPDATA%\FAHclient
Then rename "sample-config.xml" to config.xml

FAH should now run allowing you to configure your team number, username and passkey as well as your folding slot info.

TO MANUALLY DOWNLOAD THE CORES:

For me, I needed FahCore_a4.exe

Hopefully this will get other folder with the same issue up and running!
