Win 7 unable to sleep via manual or timed

Windows 7 pro 64. I've been pretty active folding so I have not wanted to use Sleep mode since installing FAH. I've now spent the last hour trouble shooting why I can't sleep by any means. After trying Powercfg with no good results I backtracked and decided to try uninstalling FAH and now I can sleep quickly as usual. POWERCFG -REQUESTS is what made me very suspicious of FAH with 2 listings for FAH ?? .exe.

I'm disappointed by this.

GPUs that are folding are inconsistent with the computer sleeping. The V7 client does disable sleep since any time the computer sleeps, the active GPU project crashes. This was intentional. After a sleep, Microsoft restores the state of the CPU but not the state of the GPU.

There's a plan to distribute an update for FahCore_17 that simply restarts the WU from the previous checkpoint after a sleep rather than aborting the whole WU That hasn't happened yet. Once it has been distributed, the default setting in the V7 client will probably be updated. (You can manually adjust the setting to that it will sleep and progress will be discarded.)

After those changes are in place, you'll still lose several percent of FAH's GPU progress (plus however long your client is not folding) but that's better than aborting all the work you've done on it.

The GPU client has always been considered a high performance client, meant to run all the time. See the High Performance FAQ.

FAH has made every effort to make it more user friendly, but Operating System limitations, like Bruce mentioned, still cause some issues. As noted, fah even tries to work around those OS issues.

I had disabled/removed the GPU in the FAHControl and I had no WU started when I tried to sleep, or even have FAH running or so I thought.
I am just a normal user not a power or institute running 24/7. I have a deep respect for those that can dedicate a computer to fold, but I am not one of them nor are, I am guessing, millions more that might do this. FAH has come a very long and wonderful way from the first 2 times I have tried it over the past years. The sleep thing isn't a game killer but disappointing in that I don't have complete control of my computer. Cheers and the best of everything to you all. Thanks Bruce and 7im

Open Advanced Control. Clieck Configure + Expert and below the Extra-client-options, click Add.
Enter disable-sleep-when-active and false for Name and Value.

Almost.

As 7im has said, if you're running a GPU slot, you might as well assume that you cannot sleep the computer. In fact, if you want to use your GPU for folding, it will make a lot of progress folding while you sleep, but only if it keeps working when you're away from the keyboard.

If you must sleep your computer, don't waste electricity folding with your GPU because the work that it does is going to be wasted.

By all means, if you fold only with your CPU, make the choice whether you want it to fold 24x7 or to sleep but recognize that FAH makes no progress while it's sleeping.

There will be an update which will avoid the total loss of FAH's progress made by your GPU when the computer sleeps. Even after that update is distributed, there will still be a significant loss during each sleep/awaken cycle.
