Not getting expected points [No passkey]

Post by Fadamor »

100% complete WU's are getting the "bait and switch" treatment. I finished a project 8900 and a project 9000 WU early this morning and as of the 7:00 status update, I have 7670 points for the day from 2 WUs. This does NOT total what the reported credit for the two projects is supposed to deliver.

Give the project (Run, Gen, Clone) and a moderator will look them up.

I looked up a report of the most recent WU's that you have completed, you just got base points on the Project 8900 WU turned in. There were also more than one passkey listed as being used by your username, two of them have not been qualified for QRB. That could be from typos entering the passkey, or you applied for a new one and need to qualify that. If the passkey on the machine is supposed to be the same as one you have used before, double check for transposed digits, leading or trailing spaces, and other entry errors.

I know nothing about passkeys. I've never set them on my F@H installations. I just have the integrated client installed on ONE computer using default settings and it detects my CPU and GPU and runs one project - each. They are currently working on a Project 8900 WU (605, 1, 59 - due to complete in about 3 1/2 hours), and a Project 7647 WU (141, 1, 168 - due to complete in about 16 1/2 hours). They are supposedly going to get 20321 and 17896 credits, respectively, but I already know that's not what will be awarded by Stanford. And before somebody suggests they time-out for the full points, the 8900 WU times-out in six days and the 7647 Wu times out in 10 days. Rarely will a WU I'm working on take longer than 24 hours to complete. The 8900 run:818 clone:7 gen:7 in the log below (completed at 3:38 this morning in the log below) apparently is one that spanned logs so I don't have the start info.

Here is my current log with all the progress lines stripped out and the entries grouped by WU. A "~~~" indicates a break in time between the two adjacent entries:

Re: Stats backlog

Please note that the WU Database confirms that you are only getting base points:
Hi Fadamor (team 315),
Your WU (P8900 R818 C7 G7) was added to the stats database on 2014-01-20 20:03:09 for 6000 points of credit.
The reason is that you aren't using the passkey so I would suggest that you get it if you want to get bonus points (once you qualify for it) and for security reasons (http://folding.stanford.edu/home/faq/faq-passkey/).

Code: Select all

03:38:24:WU01:FS00:Final credit estimate, 18334.00 points
And MY suggestion would be for Stanford to stop reporting totals including "bonus points" in the log's estimated credits entry when their own website states that passkeys (required for those "bonus points") are not mandatory. If they want to add a line in the log indicating the estimated credit with bonus points and LABEL IT AS SUCH, that would be fine. But as long as they're maintaining that passkeys are optional, it is misleading to only report totals that require a passkey in their log.

Correct, passkeys are not mandatory. Neither are bonus points. You are welcomed to keep folding without either one.

Fixed in next version. Points estimates will show bonus if passkey installed. Points will show base credit (no bonus) if no passkey installed.

Which doesn't really matter because everyone should be using a Passkey. Every V7 client installer prompts for a passkey.

What you're claiming doesn't make sense. Either a passkey is mandatory or it isn't. The Stanford position is that it isn't, so a claim that "everybody should be using a passkey" is disingenuous, at best. Sure, you legally get away with the statement because you used "should" instead of "must", but the tone of your statement makes the passkey mandatory. The fact that the installer prompts for the passkey is mitigated by the fact that the installer ALSO notes that the passkey is optional. The actual text is "For added security, you can request a passkey and enter it here." Note it does not say "you must request a passkey and enter it here". It doesn't even go as far as you did and say "you should request a passkey and enter it here".

There must be a reason why Stanford insisted on not making the passkey mandatory, so please stop with the insistence that "everyone should be using a Passkey". You obviously don't speak for Stanford in this regard.

This is a FAH community support forum. The only people who speak for Stanford are listed as "Pande Group Member" and they use the Stanford crest for their avatar. (See this post) 7im is not one of them and neither am I; we're volunteers, like yourself.

It may not make sense to you, but here's a little history plus my take on the question.

The early versions of FAH did not have passkeys; they're a comparatively "recent" development. Some people still run older clients which don't have passkeys, so the official position is that they're not required. Paying attention to points and bonuses is not required, either. Some donors ignore the points and concentrate only on doing scientific work for purely altruistic reasons.

If you're interested in bonus points, you must have a passkey. My personal opinion (and apparently that of 7im) is that everybody should use a passkey. Consider that as friendly advice. That still leaves the decision entirely in your hands, rather than being covered by Stanford's official requirements.

Hi Fadamor (team 315),
Your WU (P8900 R818 C7 G7) was added to the stats database on 2014-01-20 20:03:09 for 6000 points of credit.
Then getting back to my original post, how can I see what PantherX found regarding my submissions? Going to the F@H website and selecting my username just puts up a summary page with no details about the most recent submissions I've sent.

The Pande Group has chosen to limit access to information like that. Only forum Moderators or Pande Group Members have access to that database. Post the PRCG numbers and I'll gladly look them up for you, particularly if you suspect there was a crediting problem.

You can look at 3rd party stats sites and see individual work units, several are linked from the toolbar at the top of the forum.

The specific info the Mods have is a Mods only search tool. No public access.

OK, one of the most recent was 8900 (Run 298, Clone 4, Gen 79) and should include bonus points because I added a passkey and restarted the client yesterday at around 18:00Z (shortly after my post here at 12:42pm EST). The WU should have been received this morning at 06:59Z. Based on the entries at http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/ ... s=&u=55975, two WUs were recorded in that three-hour block yet neither one looks like it includes passkey points. (Extremeoverclocking uses CST and so is six hours behind Zulu time. A 06:59Z submission would be included in Extremeoverclocking's 03:00 CST entry because 06:59Z is 00:59 CST.)
