Bonus Points

Post by DrJAG »

I have just started folding again after a years break. I am using two machines each with i7 processors and two GPUS; one is dedicated to folding.

Is there a way to tell if I am receiving bonus points. I ask as there seems to be a mismatch between the estimated points in the log and what I am ending up with.

I am following my stats using the extreme overclocking site. (Username DrJAG; I tried to post a link here). When I look at the log in the client the final estimate is far higher than the points I end up with. For example I recently started getting project 8900 WUs on my GPUs. The base shows as 6000 points with the estimated credit at around 20000. When the WU finishes and the WU is uploaded the final credit estimate in the log stands up to this. My actual points never suggest I am getting anywhere near these points and fit better with getting the base points only. These bigger WUs take longer and my actual PPD has gone down despite estimated PPD not changing much.

I am using a passkey and fold between 10-16 work units a day. Is there a reason the estimates and reality are so different?

If you have a passkey please make sure there is no typo in ... And send the key via PM to a mod; they can check if the key is qualified (>80% success rate)
And make sure those 10-16 WU are all linked to the passkey.

Welcome to the folding@home support forum DrJAG.

Please send me or any admin/moderator a PM with any passkeys that you are using and we can check them for you. I see more than one entry in your passkey info but the actual passkey doesn't show up so if you send them we can tell you which one is good.

Thanks for your help ChristianVirtual and bollix47.

It seems I was being dragged down by a low success rate when I was folding previously.

If your passkey is below the 80% then depending upon how much below and how many WU's were processed it may take a very log time to re-qualify the passkey to get it above 80%. In situations like that it is invariably better to just get a new passkey (requires a different email address) just complete the 10 WU's needed to qualify it.

That's only better if you don't mind throwing away your old passkey.

And I would be more concerned about fixing the low success rate problem so it doesn't happen again than I would be getting a new key.
