F@h Won't Start

Post by Donglon »

So i'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this but i'm going to anyways lol. I follow the instructions to install F@h on windows and I get to the part in the installation where it asks whether you want to do express or custom, so I select express, click next and it goes right into the installation without asking me if I want to join a team. After the install is complete, I try to launch F@h and nothing pops up. Am I doing something wrong? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum, Donglon.

I assume you're running version 7.3.6, which is the version currently available from folding.stanford.edu? What are you doing to try to make it pop up? There should be an icon in the systray; it might be hidden, in which case you'd have to click on the little arrow to see the hidden tasks. If you right-click it, then select Web Control, your default browser should pop up with the web control. You can alternatively open the Advanced Control, which has a lot more options.

For me nothing started running until I selected the run at start option at installation. That might be under custom.

Wecome to foldingforum.org, Donglon.

It's hard to know what has gone wrong without a few answers.

Start the Windows Task Manager, and click on the Processes tab. If it's not already sorted by name, click on the "name" or the "image name" title. Which names start with FAH....? (You may need to click on Show processes from all users)

Yes that's the version Zagen30. I've just tried double clicking the shortcut on my desktop and trying to run it as administrator. The icon actually did appear in the systray for about five minutes but I was unable to open it from left or right clicking, nothing would happen at all. Since then I have tried reinstalling and selecting run at start like mmonnin suggested but that didn't work. Bruce, the only one under processes that starts with FAH is "FAHClient (32 bit).

I guess I should add that the only time the icon did appear in the systray was for that five minutes.

You should also be able to open the controls via Start->All Programs->FAHClient->Web/Advanced Control.

Since FAHClient is running, you can also open the web page: http://folding.stanford.edu/client/ which should connect directly to your local client (not actually using the web except to load that page).

I'm not really sure what I did, but in FAHControl it says online and running so I'm pretty sure it's working! Thanks a lot for the help everyone!
