It shouldn't normally be neccessary to run two v7-clients, instead you can add a GPU-slot to the already-running SMP-slot.

I am having a problem with the GPU AS:
"Connecting to http://assign-GPU.stanford.edu:8080/
No appropriate work server was available; will try again in a bit."

It did that all afternoon yesterday, and this morning as well. 35 attempts in all.

The above problem is happening on my #4 system:
AMD Athlon II X2 240 2.8GHz CPU, Zotac ZT-40401-10P GTX 460 GPU, NVidia driver 275.43, Debian Linux v6.0.6, FAH v6.41.

Welcome to the F@H Forum stickman,

Can you please post a section of your log? Please note that since you are running an unofficial configuration, support might be limited. Do note that my GTX 260 is receiving plenty of FahCore_11 WUs on V7.2.9 so a server issue is less likely.
No current support for running GPU slots in Linux, but a recent blog post said they are working on it.
The Linux/Wine/GPU3 setup is working well for me. I just started up a 4th Linux/Wine/GPU3 machine this morning. Two of them have GTX 285 GPUs (core 0x11), and two of them have GTX 460 GPUs (core 0x15). It isn't as difficult as I remember it from several years ago, to get this combination working.

Brought my Ubuntu/Wine GPU(550Ti) back on line yesterday. It got one unit, processed and returned, then no more. Restarted it, but still stuck.

I know this is an unsupported config (HINT to PG: provide a supported way of using GPUs on Linux [ducks and runs]) but it doesn't look like a client-side error -- more like the AS is not finding its WSs (if I've understood the process correctly).

This lack of WUs being assigned to Linux/Wine/GPU3 systems is new, it just started on Sunday afternoon. Up until that time, my two (at that time) Linux/Wine/GPU3 systems had been getting one WU after another, with no gap whatsoever.

I didn't worry about it at first, as the weekend is the usual time to take systems down for maintenance/upgrades/installing software bug fixes, so I considered it to be quite normal.

Maybe the current situation has something to do with the fact that the vsp12d/e/f/g GPU machines are showing a 'Connect' status of 'Reject'.

See http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 15#p236737 for a fix.

I fixed my system by deleting unitinfo.txt and queue.dat -- workfolder was already empty.

Thanks, David, this got my #8 system (GTX 285/nvidia_g80) going again, but no luck on my #4 system (GTX 460/nvidia_fermi).

Art

PS: Here's what I have noticed about this situation:

Regarding 'GPU not being assigned WU, no appropriate WS available', I have the same (or a very similar) problem here. 11 out of 13 GPUs in my folding systems here have no problem whatsoever, getting WUs. Only my #4 system (Linux/Wine/GPU3, GTX 460) and my #8 system (Linux/Wine/GPU3, GTX 285) have this problem. But right beside those two systems, my #5 system (Linux/Wine/GPU3, GTX 460) and my #9 system (Linux/Wine/GPU3, GTX 285) do not have this problem. So it cannot, in my opinion, be explained as a problem with a certain type of computer setup/software/configuration.

All 4 of those systems have similarities and some common features:
  1. Debian Linux v6.0.6
  2. FAH GPU3 v6.41 console client
  3. NVidia driver v275.43
  4. Similar AMD dual-core smp:2 CPUs running FAH v7.2.9 SMP, FahCore_a4, and FAHClient with the FAHControl program
  5. #4 and #5 use the same Zotac GTX 460 GPU
  6. #8 and #9 use similar (but not identical) GTX 285 GPUs

That's because the statement "No appropriate WS is available..." is a true statement as far as GPU2 is concerned. Those servers are DOWN and getting them restarted seems to have been a bigger issue than it usually is.

I installed v7 and that still didn't fix anything since it's a server issue.

I'm not in the market for a new video card, so I hope the hardware doesn't get depreciated anytime soon.

My production will drop to half until this gets fixed.

Thanx for the answer bruce :)

Are the GPU3 servers out of work?

GPU3 is not effected by this current outage. Fermi and Kepler cards should be getting assignments. The servers with work for the older nVidia cards are being fixed to get put back in service.

GPU2 work server(s) must be up again. I've got work.
