No drop down list in client control
I just downloaded Folding@home yesterday after a desire to put my computer to some work. However I cant for the life of me figure out how to set the client control to advanced mode. After some snooping around I discovered there is supposed to be a drop down list on the top right to choose the different modes but there is just empty space on mine. I'm running an i7 3770k @4.4ghz and a gtx 680 which is slightly overclocked as well, however I'm only getting 20-30k ppd which when compared to others seems quite low for my specs. I get the feeling it's because the client isn't running both my cpu and my gpu properly so I want to use it in advanced mode to set it up.

Re: No drop down list in client control
Expand the FAHControl window to be larger, there have been some reports from other users that they had to go to full-screen view to get the menu for novice/advanced/expert modes.

A screen shot would be useful?
Are you looking at FAHControl? Can you see the about button, the kill windows X, maximize and minimize buttons on the top right? Below those and to the left of the about should be a drop down list showing novice (by default). It shouldn't matter if your folding is running efficiently but it is possible to move the FAHControl window to the right so the right side of the window goes off the screen. If so, you can left-click and hold on the blue header bar (It will have "FAHControl - Folding@home client control" on it) and move the window left and lower till you can see the top right side of the window.

Thanks a lot, maximizing did the trick. It seems that fah is utilizing both my cpu and gpu but the ppd still seems kind of low to me. I'm currently at 30820 ppd, does that seem right for my specs?

Did you enter a passkey during installation? A passkey gets you bonus points, but you have to complete 10 WUs with it and then maintain an 80% successful return rate to keep getting the bonus.
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.

Re: No drop down list in client control
Well I'm not really interested in the points themselves I just want to make sure my hardware is pumping out what it can. However I've read about people with low end i7s getting around what I'm getting and that's without using gpu. I'd assume since my cpu and my gpu is the lastest and greatest I'd be pumping out at least 40-50k+ in theory but I'm new to fah so I just want to make sure I'm not doing something wrong. unless the bonus points from passkey are just throwing me off.
Re: No drop down list in client control
My I7 2600K @4.5ghz usually runs anywhere from 16k to 30k ppd depending on the work units it gets. It has been running more on the low end of that lately. My 660ti seems to be worth about 16k or 17k ppd. 30k or less could be normal if you get a bad mix of work. Also not sure if it's better in version 7.2.9 which I assume you have but I know 7.1.52 was horrible at estimating points. You can try something like HFM.net to get a better ppd estimate or check your frame times yourself and use http://www.linuxforge.net/bonuscalc2.php
Re: No drop down list in client control
What kind of GPU do you have? Reduced throughput is common when accepting the default configuration if you have an AMD GPU.coinmaster wrote:Thanks a lot, maximizing did the trick. Re: No drop down list in client control
As stated above I have a gtx 680. People get my readings with a lesser i7 alone and not even a gpu so that's why I'm wondering why I'm not much higher.
