There's no doubt that Stanford currently supports IPV6 and that FAH will enable full support in the future -- as evidenced by the tickets that Jesse_V has referenced. Currently, all FAH servers have IPV4 addresses and some have dual stacks. The only critical problem that I've seen is that the server that provides the downloaded images of FahCores is a dual-homed server and the V7 client is not able to accept the IPV6 address if that's what DNS provides. As you can see from Ticket #914, that will be fixed in the next update to V7.
What is the exact nature of your problem? Is your system unable to contact explicit IPV4 addresses such as http://130.237.232.140/ If so, it would seem likely that you are currently unable to contact most of the rest of the world. (The Stanford Assignment Server passes out IPV4 addresses for FAH Work Servers, not DNS names.)

That's exactly right. Sounds like I'll be waiting for a fix to ticket 505.

I hope you're a patient person. I expect that #505 will take a long, long, time to get fixed. Every single server needs to have a IPV6 address added (and FAH has been in the process of doing a one-by-one upgrade of the code on all of the servers for several years now.) [Why fix something that's currently working?] Then the Assignment Server needs to be rewritten to support dual stack, seeing as how there are lots and lots of people who are still running FAH client V5 or V6.
IMHO, your computer guy was a bit over-zealous to disable IPV4 so soon while almost all of the computers in world are still IPV4 only. I can't predict when IPV6 support will be added, but FAH must also continue to support IPV4 until all of the clients in all of the countries of the world have been updated.

During the transition, most use either dual stacks or IP Tunneling to enable access to the full internet. Or use IPv6 externally, but continue to route IPv4 internally.
It's unfortunate that 99% of the internet is unavailable to IPv6 only users.
