What to do after download?
Does anyone know if we have to run the program every time we turn on the computer? Or does it automatically work without us doing anything after installation?

Welcome to the forum, cdc482.
Which version are you inquiring about? None of the v6 clients automatically launch at startup; you have to configure them to run as a service for that to happen (or put a shortcut to the client in the Startup folder in Windows). The v7 client does run by default on startup, though not as a service.

How do I configure it to run as a service or put a shortcut to the client in the startup folder?

Wow. I thought I was extremely computer literate, but I can't get past the first step. I think I might just leave the Systray version and manually start it every time I turn on the computer, unless anyone has easier steps to follow.

Re: What to do after download?
I've always preferred not installing it as a service and putting a shortcut to the client in the Startup folder; it gets the client running as soon as Windows boots, but you don't have to go into the services control panel if you want to shut the client down for any reason.
Alternatively, you could try out the v7 beta client, which is close to a public release and which is pretty simple to get set up. As mentioned before, by default it is set to start up automatically, but not as a service. If you do go that route it is highly preferred that you set the v6 client to Pause When Done and wait until it finishes the current WU before uninstalling it and installing v7.
