Which client is best for me?

Post by J-WeB »

Hello. I am not new to this, but I was wondering which client would be best for me.

Here are my specs...
CPU: i5 750 (true quad core)
GPU: nVidia 250GTS
RAM: 8 GB DDR3 1066

I run my computer for about 8-12 hours a day.

If you are running Windows, then go for V7. Ensure to read the installation guide so that you get both your CPU and video card folding. Welcome to Folding!

Welcome to the forum J-WeB!

Yes the v7 client should work for you. It's still in beta, but it makes running F@h pretty simple and sets up everything for you. Note that there are a still few bugs in it, such as the ETA/PPD being off, but it should work fairly well for you. You can get it here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/WinGuide

EDIT: By the way, its latest release was announced on this thread: viewtopic.php?f=67&t=20459
F@h is now the top computing platform on the planet and nothing unites people like a dedicated fight against a common enemy. This virus affects all of us. Lets end it together.

Also, I have 64-bit Windows 7. Is there a 64-bit version?

No. No need for a 64 bit version. It doesn't go any faster.

Should I run a separate smp for each cpu?

No.

When a smp slot is configured, it defaults to using all of your CPUs. You can manually adjust it to a lower number, as 7im suggests, leaving one CPU to run an AMD GPU.

Alright. Sounds good. I don't understand why it is lagging really badly though. I mean it makes it impossible to use the computer. The cursor even freezes momentarily. Any ideas?

J-WeB wrote:Okay that's what I figured. For some reason my computer is lagging really bad when I run the FAH Control. I'm sure it isn't supposed to be like that. I tried setting the CPU usage down, but in task manager it's still saying it is 100% CPU usage. What can I do?
I'm moving the rest of this discussion into the other topic where you are asking the exact same question about screen lagging. We really don't like answering the same questions in two places.
