deadline on 3064

Post by mahchem »

Running the SMP on my 2.4 gig Intel Core 2 Quad I previously commented on much lower the ppd is on a 3064, as compared to 2653....ok I can live with that ...but if the deadline is as important as they would make you think, then please note that it is impossible to make the 24 hour deadline given for this ....it takes about 25 hours if the machine is fully dedicated to it............on the 2653 a two or three day deadline is easily met......these are prefered deadlines, I think I read this is the only one of significance. I see that the buss speed of 266 mhz on my system is much slower than the reference system so perhaps this accounts for some of the differences....anyway for what its worth!!!

If you follow the Project Summary link at the top of this forum you will see that the preferred deadline for 3064 is actually 1.36 days. Processing the unit in 25 hours is well within the deadline.

If you're using FAHMON to look at the projected preferred deadline it appears to only be looking at the days and not the partial part.

p3064 on Q6600 @ 3.33 GHz, 370 x 9, ram @ 925 MHz, 4-4-4-12, native Ubuntu 7.10

TPF: 07:18.0
TPU: 12:10:00
PPD: 2621.6
PPD/GHz: 787.3
PPD/GHz/core: 196.82

Performance on p3064 is the same as p3061 and p3062 on this rig.

You should be completing this WU in less than 18 hours.

Thank you for the reference....I was not aware of it ..yes I was going by Fahmon

and to Chas ...you are running faster clock and mem buss speeds....2.4 vs 3.3 gig and my mem buss is only 244 compared to yur 900 plus
so I think it is only expected I would be slower than you....Thank you for the numbers anyway....

I took some of that into account, using 750ppd/GHz as the production rate. If I had a p3064, I'd declock a rig and test it. In any event,I wouldn't think the 38% higher bus and clock speed would result in a 100% performance boost. Are you sure speed step is disabled?

SpeedStep is a trademark for a series of technologies (including SpeedStep, SpeedStep II, and SpeedStep III) built into some Intel microprocessors that allows the clock speed of the processor to be dynamically changed (lowered) by software. In the cpu section of the bios you should find SpeedStep and should disable it.

I filed this ticket Deadlines incorrect for deadlines with fractional days, e.g. 2.2 on FahMon to fix.

In fact, the preferred deadline for 3064 is set now to 1.80 days, which equals to 43 hours. Probably this value has been increased in background ;-)
