FAH 6.29 Linux client
Tried a reboot, but no change. 10 failed attempts so far, 1 with the "bad packet error", 9 without it ... looks the same as before. Same VM faulting (Lenny-2; Lenny-1 has been working without a hiccup).
Was about to ask here for further ideas, but decided I would try a bit more digging myself first ... thought I'd check the file permissions ...
lenny-2:~# cd /home/fah
lenny-2:/home/fah# ls -l
.. everything looks OK here ...
lenny-2:/home/fah# cd folding
lenny-2:/home/fah/folding# ls -l
.. everything looks OK here too ...
lenny-2:/home/fah/folding# ls -l work
.. umm, that may be it: some files had their owner/group set as root/root rather than fah/fah.
Removed work directory and contents, rebooted Lenny-2, and ... LOOKING GOOD!!!
It's folding! 
Though I'd post that here for the benefit of others ... and to remind myself if I ever have it happen again!
