Unknown shutdown error

Post by barebear »

In the past when FAH would go to sleep per the end of the following FAH 504 console.exe text, I was advised to open the FAH folder and delete the "Work" folder and "queue.dat", and then reopen FAH 504 console.exe. Till now that has solved the problem. Last night, after deleting the afore-mentioned Work and queue.dat, and reopening the FAH 504 console.exe, the following was in the console box:

I don't know that deleting those files are always the best recommendation. They may be a work around, but fixing the original problem would be a better course of action so you don't have to delete files.

First, go a head and delete the unitinfo.txt as well. Delete the work folder and queue.dat file again, if new ones have been created. Then delete the client.cfg file. Run the client again, and answer the setup questions again.

Does it work better now? If not, please post the first 30 lines of fahlog.txt file after the client restarts, including ALL of the startup info. Thanks.

Re: Unknown shutdown error

Post by bruce »

Error 0x79 is unknown, but one thing that is known about it is that it's an error from Windows, not from FAH.

In some cases, specific WUs seem to have a higher probability of errors.

One other possibility that has been mentioned in the past is actual hardware errors, including things like memory errors. If your system is overheating or some of the components have started having occasional errors (or if you're overclocked) you might look into that area more carefully. Deleting files in FAH discards whatever work you've done and may or may not lead to a new assignment, but it's a pretty poor way to cure a hardware problem, if that happens to be what's causing your problems.

Hi Bruce,

I don't overclock or do any tweaking to increase processor performance, and my HD is at 78 degrees Fahrenheit---I don't have a monitor for my processor or MB, but have never had any performance/operating issues with them or any memory issues--Windows runs perfectly except for this FAH thing---system is a Dell 8100 w/ Pent 4 1500 MHz and 1 GB RAM.

Hi 7im,

Followed your instructions, but after deleting the 3 items you mentioned there were no setup questions when I ran the client. I deleted everything from the program folder, downloaded FAH 504, and for now things seem to be working as they should. Here is current log file:

Not to be a trouble maker ;-), but I noticed the program is running standard loops. Why isn't there one of the optimizations like SSE?

Amber WUs are like Tinkers, they do not use SSE optimizations.
