Re: Just a reminder
Honestly, sometimes that stance makes things difficult for average folders. I've been searching for months for a list with the top nvidia video cards, regarding point earning. Heck, I'm not so much of a hardware guy and I need people to point out to me which stuff does the work better. Recently, I b...

Re: WU Shortages - Prevent cherry picking
maybe the better solution could be as simple as allowing users to be honest and simply request to abandon a WU in a way that doesn't harm progress. I've seen some pretty strong opinions that there should be some penalty whether or not the sever gets informed of the abandonment. (Perhaps a lesser pe...

Re: Running FAH and Boinc. I need some configuring...
That's a brilliant idea, teekay! My programming knowledge is quite limited, but a good solution would be to make a script that would detect cpu usage of less than -let's say- 50% and then launch the BOINC client at 80% cpu usage. When the f@h client starts, cpu usage will come to 100% and the script...

Re: Answers to: Reasons for not using F@H.
I know this doesn't really answer your questions but there is a v7 client in development which should be out sometime this year, which is a ground-up rewrite of the client software by a professional coder rather than by scientists who would rather spend their time improving the science code than th...

Re: A question of manners
I will try to find your thread. If the problem was with one specific work unit, then according to that WIKI article, it's not a problem with your hardware. It's just a bad work unit. If the PRCG numbers were posted in your thread, we can have a Moderator mark that work unit as bad so it never gets ...

Re: A question of manners
I never spoke about cherry-picking. All I asked was that the servers themselves decide which WUs are best for which family of Cpus/gpus etc. Your initial post mentions the clients doing the selection, not the Stanford servers: First of all, many people around here have asked the Pande Team to progr...

Re: A question of manners
With respect, what "to do list" are you looking at to make the determination that improving WU distribution to better match hardware is not on that list? Vijay Pande's blog, announcements of the forum, Vijay Pande's twitter etc etc. And no disrespect, but some number of EUEs are expected....

A question of manners
Spending time day by day lurking around the forum, I see a rising tendency of disrespect to the user -in general, the person who is generously offering his/her hardware to help science get results. Heck, not science; Stanford University, but let's not go down that path. It seems to me that most of t...

Re: F@H and Facebook?
I tried to take a look at the application, but nothing showed up, no matter what browser I was using. Maybe it is all a matter to opening to a bigger audience, like facebook. Why, if that means anything, I'd love to have a box in my profile which will state how many points per day I'm crumming etc.

Re: Dedicated Folding Computer Poll
@whynot: so, someone sends you a 1000$ plus computer, and you want to take credit for the points it makes, just because you will spend only a few 100 $$ worth of power in those 3 years??? The cost of electricity is not the same in every country. I had to pay about 30 euros more (about $43) a month ...

Re: Dedicated Folding Computer Poll
Still, I'm all for paying the added electricity bills but not looking forward to pay some hundred euros tax for a new computer, seeing that I was not going to get one anytime soon. :B
For someone who is planning to buy a new powerhouse computer, though, it is a great investment.

Re: FoldingForum Notifier - Google Chrome extension
I installed this today, but it doesn't seem to work. :/ All it does is say "FoldingForum Error! Retrying in ** seconds". The number of seconds goes up every now and then. Any help?

Re: Dedicated Folding Computer Poll
My question is towards whom this poll is geared. Most probably to Americans, even if this hasn't been set in stone yet. The reason I am asking is because of the terrible sums of money one needs to pay to customs offices in Europe, if they are ordering stuff from the USA. Well, unless you would put b...

Re: Status Server just a little bit crazy.
I noticed that too. Last night, EOC was showing that my team was at 290k something points, whereas, the Stanford page -not in update mode- was stuck at 288. None of the members of my Team has contributed to other teams. Also, there are no duplicate usernames. All of my team members are folding with ...
