Which client do you use ?

On v7, add gpu = false to the config file to disable GPU auto-detection.

Delete the GPUs.json file (somewhere in /var/lib/fahclient) and restart the client.

I thought there was an effort in GROMACS to improve the load balancer so that it could distribute load effectively even among a mix of E- and P-cores. The issue is not with Gromacs but with OS scheduler (mostly Windows one) that will assign all threads to E core because they run at low priority ......

No, the issue is with v8 default resource group that allow to mix GPU and CPU allocations. v7 client is perfectly fine as CPU and GPU slots are exclusive.

FAH GPU cores don't run anymore on Core 2 CPUs as it lacks some instruction set (SSE4.2) that is now mandatory.

I'm not sure about CPU cores requirements (but you need more than 3 threads/cores), but it's definitely not a good idea to use such old CPUs anyway.

v7 is still working well with Advanced Control and HFM ... no one used Web Control with this client.

There had been some scheduled maintenance at their ISP. Is the situation better now or do you still see some issues with certain IPs ?

At some point, the AS should give up and assign something else ... unless you're unlucky and there's nothing else for this configuration.

As far as I remember, v7 client would retry indefinitely with increasing delay (capped to 1 hour) between attempts.

Yes, it was working perfectly fine with v7 client. It would just retry later.
