Re: Assign Wait
For anyone else is reading this, after setting it to 3 threads, and restarting the client, I finally got a WU assigned. Finally I can have my quiet PC...

Re: Why are you folding?
Oh I love this thread, I am just leaving a comment here so there is a record of my personal history. I started folding when I was 13 - I saw that as a part of Google Compute on Google Toolbar. I was just curious. I have really liked science and maths when I was a child. I guess I still do. I am 33 n...

Re: My client cannot detect the GPU after reboot, and I need to manually restart the client
Well, I do wonder if it would help if I put the nvidia modules in /etc/modules. But I can't be bothered to test. I am okay to restart the service after reboot - I don't restart my computer all that often.

My client cannot detect the GPU after reboot, and I need to manually restart the client
I have fah-client 8.4.9 installed on Debian Bookworms. I can confirm that fah-client had been added to the "render" group. I noticed that after rebooting my machine, fah-client doesn't automatically restart folding on my GPU. I have to restart fah-client service manually, then it would not...

Re: Assign Wait
Well, it turns out that my GTX 1080 is operating within acceptable noise limit. I don't think my wallet is too happy though.
I did try 3 threads, I still had difficulty with getting WU with 3 threads.

Re: Assign Wait
I just want to say I have a i7-8700K, and I folded with two threads to reduce the amount of noise. It is a bit annoying that 2-thread machines are no longer allowed to fold.

Re: How many cores should I donate?
Longtime BOINCer, here because KREMBIL can't get it's act together to get WCG back up and running What's wrong with WCG? My WCG machines are still getting works fine. I prefer WCG on my super low end machines, because FAH doesn't have the option of pausing computation when CPU is busy. My "pre...

Re: How many cores should I donate?
Oh my client makes the deadline fine. I don't think I need to add more threads. Why wouldn't you fold with fewer than 4 cores?

Re: How many cores should I donate?
I remember at one point there was an announcement that single-core tasks were being deprecated. Are there plans like that for dual-core tasks?

How many cores should I donate?
I have just got myself a second hand desktop. I now have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU, which has 6 cores. Historically I have been using quad-core laptops, and I had been donating 2 cores 24x7 to keep the noise down. Now I have a desktop with proper cooling. I am just re-evaluating how many core...

Did you start getting the problem after the upgrade? Or has the problem always been there?MFicek wrote:Thanks for that post, I have even weaker nvidia geforce gt 630m and wanted to ask the same question, but now I don't need.

That did the trick, thanks!gs60 wrote:One thing you could try is remove the gpu slots and add<gpu value="false"/> to the config.xml. This may keep it from being readded.

Re: How do I stop FAHClient from adding an unwanted GPU slot
If you add <pause-on-start v="True"/> to the gpu slot, that should stop fah from running on that gpu. I use it for cpu, but I assume it would work the same for gpu. As I mentioned, I manually paused it, so it is okay for now. I just don't like seeing that slot. Is there any ways to remove...

How do I stop FAHClient from adding an unwanted GPU slot?
I have a Geforce GT 730M. I am on Debian. FAHclient is configured to run as a service. I recently upgraded my FAHClient to 7.6.21. Now FAHClient automatically adds a GPU slot when I reboot. I don't want to use my GPU for folding, as it is a really weak GPU. It barely complete the task within the dea...
