Re: Is there a client for non-systemd systems?
Linux v7 https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/v7/public/fahclient/ Really appreciat this link. We downloaded the files and then used ChatGPT to help us sort out the rest. We didn't have to compile. Just separated the files and created a correct destop icon with the proper link. Have a beauti...

Re: Build Rpm fails
Does this RPM still require systemd? Some of us still prefer the previous way of doing things...
In the meantime, still happily running the 7.4 version and foldin' away!
Have a great day and be happy!

Is there a client for non-systemd systems?
We are trying to reinstall the FAH files on a new computer (well, older) but find that the 7.x files aren't available anymore. The new ones all call for systemd to be installed.
Is there a systemd-free version available?
Many thanks and have a beautiful Sunday!

How to use cpulimit [SOLVED]
Have been using cputhrottle - to keep the system under 50 C - but it tends to freeze after several days... so i looked for another solution. It seems that there is a cpulimit program, which we also have installed. When i run htop i see at least 8 processes that have "fah" in them. Does any...

Re: 8.3.18
Sigh, so, i'm stuck since i really don't know how to build ...
Maybe i can just copy back the 3 files i copied out of the sub-directory and it'll just start up again in ver 7.x.
Thanks again calxalot for being so patient. Have a beautiful Sunday afternoon!

Re: 8.3.18
As i understand the .rpm usage, it is just to install the fah-client in the proper sub-directory? Is this not correct? If it is, then i don't need to "build" anything. All i need is the fah-client file without any reference to systemd so that i can just copy it to the proper sub-directory....

Re: 8.3.18
Thanks again, calxalot. You're correct, of course. i got the fah-client in /usr/bin and used a terminal to see if i could run it. Nope. It reports that i need the systemd library. Well, i first need to figure out which method i must follow to build this by figuring out with which OS my OS is compati...

Re: 8.3.18
Thanks calaxlot! Since i don't know how to build - that's not going to help very much. However i opened up and looked at the .rpm file and all it is is a bunch of directories and sub-directories, each with one or more files ... If i copied each file to its correct directory/sub-directory, would the ...

Re: 8.3.18
Thanks Joe! the problem was not with creating the .rpm but with trying to install it because it evidently requires libraries that have to do with systemd. Not all of us Linux users have switched or want to switch to systemd. Have a wonderful afternoon! And, thanks for answering / Wow / so fast!!! :)

8.3.18 [SOLVED]
Didn' t realize this was Beta. Ug. Well, got it converted from .deb to .rpm with alien but upon install it says i need a library which has to do with systemd and our OS doesn't use systemd. Sigh. Should i just go back to the 7.x version? Operating System: PCLinuxOS 2025 KDE Plasma Version: 6.2.4 KDE...

Re: Computer seems to be running two FAH!
Well, there it is... Found fahcliente under /etc/ and renamed the config_bak.xml and the CPU usage began dropping to 50%. TOP reports only one instance of FAH running - strangely enough it reports the root instance running and not the user ??? Very weird. i'll turn it back on and let the WU complete...
