Re: Temps and GPU utilisation
i've been using a cputhrottle program/script on my PCLinuxOS install HP lappy for a while now. Works just fine. When i need cooler temps, i just edit the file - easy peasy. Have a beautiful day and be happy! :) P.D. This is the script that ChatGPT developed for me for the previous version 7.x of FAH...

Re: Have upgraded my GPU to a Fatboy - now what?
Our PCLinuxOS install does not have any systemd on it except a fake file i found in the repos which is probably a decoy/shim for another program and which ChatGPT used as well. If you want, i can zip the FAH-portable folder and upload it somewhere from where you can download. It's great 'cause it ju...

Re: Have upgraded my GPU to a Fatboy - now what?
It's working just fine so far. It looked like it recognized the GPU but for some reason it's not using it. Well, i've been using ChatGPT for several months now for this and that and the other and outside of dropping back to version 4.x or something i really haven't had any problem with it. It's been...

Re: Have upgraded my GPU to a Fatboy - now what?
Joe_H - thanks for posting! And so quickly! We created the FAHControl bec. that's what Chat indicated. It's only used to house the config.xml. According to the new webpage we have> linux-b450-aorus-m v8.4.9 showing. So, maybe the config.xml file goes in another subdirectory. If so, do you know which...

Re: Have upgraded my GPU to a Fatboy - now what?
Thanks for replying nada391! Wow, it took a while. So, i solved this problem by upgrading to 8.4 version of Folding by following ChatGPT's instructions to create a FAH-portable folder which contains everything i need for my various PCLinuxOS computers (except to change the config.xml script) which d...

Have upgraded my GPU to a Fatboy - now what?
Have upgraded our PCLinuxOS Ryzan 7 system to a Fatboy GPU with 8 GB. Should i change the settings in FAHControl? If so, to what should i change them?

Re: Question about GPU on laptop
Just saw him. He said he's got a Radeon Fatboy with 8 Gb. Yuppii! He's switched from Windoze to Mac because of his photography work... We'll be the lucky winner of his last compatible card. Sigh.

Re: Question about GPU on laptop
As far as i can tell the thermal issue is o.k. We got Perplexity to come up with a simple script which we run after starting folding to limit the CPU usage. We've also got a desktop Ryzan 5 which has been going bannanas til yesterday when Perplexity provided a script for the GPU which is the one att...

Re: Question about GPU on laptop
Sigh. Wow. Thanks very much Joe for such a complete, knowledable and quick reply! This thing is beast - really heavy - but we hardly take it anywhere except Mexico City every 3 - 4 months. But, it's rock solid and just works. Was easy to switch out the keyboard for a backlit one. Perplexity even sug...

Re: Is there a client for non-systemd systems?
Linux v7 https://download.foldingathome.org/releases/v7/public/fahclient/ Really appreciat this link. We downloaded the files and then used ChatGPT to help us sort out the rest. We didn't have to compile. Just separated the files and created a correct destop icon with the proper link. Have a beauti...

Does this RPM still require systemd? Some of us still prefer the previous way of doing things...
In the meantime, still happily running the 7.4 version and foldin' away!

Is there a client for non-systemd systems?
We are trying to reinstall the FAH files on a new computer (well, older) but find that the 7.x files aren't available anymore. The new ones all call for systemd to be installed.
Is there a systemd-free version available?
Many thanks and have a beautiful Sunday!
