It appears that I managed for find my own answer in the following post: https://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=30993&p=303071&hilit=Mint+OpenCL#p303071 Specifically, all I needed to do was sudo apt install ocl-icd-opencl-dev . With that one installation the OpenCL device was found...

I get the same results, cycling through 5 different versions of the Nvidia drivers. The results are the same in Linux Mint 18.3 and Mint 19.

I'm becoming very frustrated at FAH v7. In a nutshell, FAHControl is a no show. I'm followed the instructions in this link: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/applications/484521-12-3-folding-home-7-3-6-fahcontrol-does-not-start.html So there is a link to Python 2.6 FAHClient...
