Re: Suggestion for another stats, progress
As far as anyone knows, new projects will continue to be created. You can't measure them so you can't create a percentage based on them. What percentage of the life of mankind has already passed? The probability of human extinction within the next 9000 years is 95% , so we're definitely in the home...

Re: Dual-core 2Ghz vs Single-core 4Ghz - Which faster?
Core 2 Duo SU9300 runs at 1200MHz. There's even a 1066MHz part (Core 2 Duo ULV U7500) but that's nearly 2 years old.shatteredsilicon wrote:The slowest C2D is 1.8GHz
Or should laptops be excluded from SMP folding? And all the AMD systems as well?

Re: Suggestion
2) How long is the cpu idle waiting for the data to be transferred? For a moderately fast connection, the issue is unimportant. In my case, the CPU is idle for about 20 seconds every couple of days. You can't convince me that's worth making any system-wide changes. As general rule, a slow connectio...

Re: Dual-core 2Ghz vs Single-core 4Ghz - Which faster?
1. He is using 1 SMP client read the table carefully the "S' represents usage of the core. Yes I know, but he also said that he runs 4 SMP clients to compensate for this loss. I'm really interested if it yields higher PPD than 2 clients or not. Especially with A2 core. 2. There is no throttlin...

Re: Dual-core 2Ghz vs Single-core 4Ghz - Which faster?
Specifically, on the setup that I'm using, I have 6x GPU clients and a quad-core CPU. Each GPU client consumes around 20% of a single core (it's actually a bit less, but 20% is 1/5, a nice round number for the sake of the explanation. Here's an ASCII-art example of what happens when all run at the ...

Re: Many Questions
Am new to VMware Player and would like to use it on my Windows XP duo. My XP is 32-bit. Can I run folding or do I require a 64-bit operating system? The processor on my duo is 64-bit. I did try it. I installed VMware Player but got this message: VT not enabled: This is usually due to a BIOS/firmwar...

Re: Team user using profane ID name
I'd like to remind the censor-happy fellows here that FAH is in fact a world-wide project. If you go to the FAH website then you have the option of viewing it in Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Greek, Japanese, Lithuanian, Portuguese, Russian etc. Probably even more languages will follow ...

Re: Suggestion
The upload and download can happen at the same time. This has already been implemented when you start the client and there are results to upload but new WU has not been downloaded yet. In such a case the client downloads a new WU and uploads the results simultaneously. Usually it takes much less tim...

Re: Points are (or should be) social engineering
Maybe Stanford could separate the points based on client? The whole idea of using a single metric here is like comparing apples to oranges. I mean I currently have 1.2 million points which might seem a lot. But it could be separated as: 900,000 SMP points, which is decent but nothing special compare...

Project: 2662 (Run 1, Clone 173, Gen 8)
This WU has 1250000 steps instead of the usual 250000 steps and sure enough it takes it 5 times longer to complete a frame. There's no way I can make the 3 day deadline on this one. Should I just delete it? [08:43:08] + Processing work unit [08:43:08] Core required: FahCore_a2.exe [08:43:08] Core fo...

Re: Project 2665: very low PPD
I have my laptop running a SMP client. It's a C2D T7200 (2.0ghz). It normally earns ~1000-1200PPD. However, on project 2665, I'm earning 349PPD. At this rate, it will take me ~6 days to complete the WU. While I will complete it before the deadline, why is this project so different in regards to tim...

Re: p2665 points/deadline?
Wow... such good arguements... Because yeah their target market with a bench machine of a 2 dual cores means the SMP was targeted for the C2D market... right... SMP client was released November 2006 which is also when the first quad-cores appeared. SMP client was not written overnight though...
