Re: Cancer war, no progress? [URL]
My fear is that even if we are someday reasonably able to treat most forms of cancer, it will not be affordable. These companies that charge thousands for a single shot... I can't even continue my thought. How is that any different than current treatments? I am all too aware of what is charged for ...

Re: Is GPU folding more valuable than CPU folding scientific
yes, PG has stated that scientific value is their goal when assigning points i.e. PPD. Theoretically, more PPD means more scientific value. As a second point, with Core_17, GPU PPD values are assigned by running the same WU on the SMP benchmark machine. So theoretically there shouldn't be a disconn...

Re: Is GPU folding more valuable than CPU folding scientific
Short answer: No. Points are tied to scientific value, so equal points means equal scientific value. That is the whole basis of the points system, equal pay for equal work. Personal opinion has nothing to do with it. Has this really been stated by the PG? Just looking at the Client Statistic page, ...

Re: What is happening with the Linux client?
Looking into this is on our todo list, but we're currently using developer time to push on the NaCl and two other new clients for some tight deadlines, so this may have to wait a bit. Thanks Vijay! PS I should stress that this appears to be a stats-underreporting issue. So it would seem. Down to ze...

What is happening with the Linux client?
I was just checking out the "Client statistics by OS" page. http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=osstats2 According to that, there are only 202 active CPUs running the Linux client, running at 1 TFLOP. Is there something wrong with the stat, or are there now only a few of us L...

Re: Server does not have record of this unit ???
For PlayLoud, the work server is 171.64.65.60 which has some troubles these days and has been reported multiple times (The thread just below this one for instance : viewtopic.php?f=19&t=13010 ... Search is your friend ). In my defense, I was just viewing new posts and found one describing my pr...

Re: Electrical Costs
Man, even if the rest of the house was dark and quiet, and I was being charged the lowest tier for electricity, it would be about double what you guys are paying. There is a studio apartment nearby that I was thinking of moving into after I buy a newer car. The best part? All utilities (including el...

Ideally yes, but the reality is electricity costs money. I live in Southern California, and I can assure you the electricity cost is noticeable. ... did you think about buying couple of solar pannels? Southern California.. just some five 200Watt pannels on the roof and you could run powerful foldin...

Re: Do Laptops Get Too Hot?
Low 70's here. I keep a deck of cards (in the box) under the front of my laptop (under the spacebar) to let the air flow. Works like a charm. Been folding on it for well over a year now with no trouble.

Re: Comparting performance between folding clients
Not if what 7im said is true, in that the GPU clients have to rerun some of those calculations, because they do not retain the results in memory like a CPU would.

With that setup, I think I would run one GPU2 client, and one standard console client.
