Re: No folding work?
I’m starting to see some projects come back online in the last couple of hours that I haven’t seen in a while. And I can confirm that both 3 core and 8 core machines here are getting timely assignments now.

Re: 3 core CPU WU
The shortage is temporary and there are no plans to explicitly require 4 threads. Even the requirement of 3 threads is simply a temporary workaround due to a bug in the client that only happens on systems with 2 threads. Thanks for the explanation, arisu. I have scripted my own workarounds to keep ...

Re: 3 core CPU WU
I have a couple of 4 core machines that will still fold if given all 4 CPU cores to work with. Allowing only 3 cores has not been fruitful for the last couple of weeks, and will get the NO APPROPRIATE ASSIGNMENT message. When more than 4 threads are required, I’ll have to retire those machines from ...

Re: Core a9 on Apple silicon
Same. The difference is pretty stark on some of the A9 WUs. It seems to hit the Intel CPUs on MacOS as well, but not as much as on the M-series systems.

Re: Fails to find work unit over and over and over again
Minimum is still 3. Are you sure about that? I have several machines (a few of which are very capable CPU machines), none of which will receive a WU if the cpu count is set to 3. It may just be that the available pool of WUs does not have a sufficient number of small atom count projects, but I have...

Re: Fails to find work unit over and over and over again
I've been manually bumping it up to 4 to get something assigned and then back down to three again. It's kind of stupid, given my RPIs can get units with 4 cores, but it literally takes 5x as long to run a unit on them (over my Mac with 3), even with the extra core. I have found the same limitation—...

Re: fah-client 8.4.9: HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE ("No appropriate assignment")?
The machines are running various versions of MacOS: 15.6, 13.7.7, and 26.0 (beta). I restarted one, and while I was writing this reply, they have all picked up a WU. Coincidence? Perhaps there was about a two hour outage...fixed for now, it seems. Thanks, calxalot. I was previously mostly getting WU...

Re: fah-client 8.4.9: HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE ("No appropriate assignment")?
Perhaps related to this assignment issue—All five of my Macs running CPU WUs are currently getting the same SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE message after successful uploads. This began about 90 minutes ago. All are set to use between 3 and 8 performance cores. Have the assignment servers run out of appropriate ...

I wanted to let you know that your website is one of the ones I visit every day, several times a day! It is an integral, indispensable, and virtually unmatched part of the Folding@home experience. Would it be possible to tell me, or update the FAQ to write how much this system costs you monthly ? T...

Re: fah-client 8.4.9: HTTP_SERVICE_UNAVAILABLE ("No appropriate assignment")?
FYI, I am running several machines for CPU-only work, and they are regularly receiving and then returning completed WUs with only 3 CPU threads provisioned. So it doesn’t appear to be a problem of availability.

Re: Restarted Folding
I know folding is not recommended on a MacBookAir, it has no fan to control temperature. I have an M2 Air that is folding on its 4 Performance Cores. Don’t worry about the lack of a fan, the machine will throttle CPU if necessary to maintain a safe operating temperature. Propping up the rear of the...

Re: ERROR:Guru Meditation
Guru Meditation Error is something we used to see on the Amiga when it had a system crash back in the day. I didn’t realize it found its way into Linux systems as well!

Re: How long is the data about old WU's retained?
I'm seeing 167 days worth of work under my Units tab, less than 6MB of log files.
So that would be about 12MB/year for this CPU WUs-only machine. So I’m not too concerned personally, but if you’re doing GPU work, I could see this eventually becoming a problem?
