Re: P6900 R60, C4, G17
Exactly the same problem here. It downloads multiple times, then proceeds to download new core (always goes with A5), after 5 core downloads it puts a statement to the effect "5 core download fails, going to sleep for 24 hours". 4 x Opteron 6128, 16 MB RAM, Ubuntu 11.04, Kraken, Langouste,...

Re: Increasing efficiency of FAH
There is also another problem - projects do eventually complete, and every time the preferred ones complete, the client should be reconfigured (I know it doesn't have to be as this is still a preference rather than a demand but still) - a major pain for those of us running large numbers of clients ...

Re: Increasing efficiency of FAH
Obviously somthing wrong with the B3 stepping on your end. Reinstall or update the client, that's an operator error/install error there. DriveEuro, I have reinstalled the client with the Aug 1 upgrade - there was no change in behavior. Just yesterday I got another 2665, it crunched all the way to 1...

Re: Increasing efficiency of FAH
Other than the known and purposeful DGromacs legacy issue, can you provide another example? 7im, I just recalled one more example - Core_a2 for Linux is supposedly crunching project 2662 much faster (PPDwise) than other projects crunched by Core_a1 (2605, 2653, 306x). I have tried this and realized...

Re: Increasing efficiency of FAH
Plus if users could select a preferred project then any projects which are thought to give lower PPD values will take much longer to complete as seemingly "fast" projects are completed first as users choose them. John, I did not say "SELECT", I said "SUGGEST", there's ...

Re: Increasing efficiency of FAH
Other than the known and purposeful DGromacs legacy issue, can you provide another example? 7im: One more example: I have 3 Q6600 quads - 2 SLACR and 1 SL9UM. The SL9UM cannot finish ANY WU belonging to 2665 project. It goes to 100% then finds an error and deletes the WU. It happens regardless of R...

Re: Q6600 running SMP clients, 2 or 4 cores?
I meant that if you can return the samples within the preferred deadline (2-3 days depending on project), the WU is not assigned to any other folder. Therefore, by increasing PPD by 20+%, I'm in fact speeding up the projects, not slowing them down. If, for example I get 6 WUs from the same project i...

Re: Q6600 running SMP clients, 2 or 4 cores?
No, all quads run Linux - Ubuntu 7.10.
I understand 2 instances (2 clients) are unsupported by Stanford, but they still chyrn out much more, at least that's my experience.

Increasing efficiency of FAH
I have an idea to increase efficiency of certain FAH clients FAH by some substantial factor. I think Stanford should consider to add an option to clients that would specify what is the preference of WUs to the particular client/user. This could enhance productivity - possibly by as much as 5-10%, as...

Re: Q6600 running SMP clients, 2 or 4 cores?
Hmmmmmmmm,
I'm running 3 quads and on all of them running 2 clents of SMP yields better results (by 20% or more). I am able to still finish WUs within 24-36 hours so that's not delaying the program.
