Re: CPU paused but it's still used?
First question: If I start FAH on CPU the GPU slows down. I get more PPD if I pause the CPU. Is this normal? Second question: When I pause the CPU, tast manager still shows FAHcore using 15%-20% CPU. Is this related to the first question? Is the CPU essentially having to feed the GPU data or someth...

Re: Higher then average PPD?
Oh ok so the PPD is currently artificially high?bruce wrote:Yes, CUDA does provide an extra bonus even though the Points are allocated based on what OpenCL is expected to do. This may change at some time in the future.

Higher then average PPD?
I just got a 2070 Super FE and started folding with it expecting to get around 1.6m PPD like all these charts I saw on here said. To my surprise I'm getting between 2m and 2.3m PPD. Is this normal? Is there a way I can do more? I went from 33,000 ppd folding with a GTX 560ti, so this is a whole new ...

Re: CPU paused but it's still used?
Also, all of the charts I have seen prior to the purchase of the 2070 super shows these cards average 1.6 million ppd. Im getting 2-2.2m ppd. Did I get lucky with a good card? Its only a founders edition and I have not touched an overclock yet (and probably wont)

Re: CPU paused but it's still used?
Intel ARK shows SSE4.2 for instruction set. This is true, but no current FAH core uses SSE4.2. The current cores use SSE2, AVX, and for Core_a8, AVX2 with FMA3. I think the underlying GROMACS has more levels, but only these 3 sped up F@H. If F@H more performance in some future core, it could change...

Re: CPU paused but it's still used?
When I pause the CPU, tast manager still shows FAHcore using 15%-20% CPU. Is the CPU essentially having to feed the GPU data or something? Yes, the GPU cores use a single thread to constantly swap data between main memory and the GPU. The CPU is also used for periodic sanity checks of the GPU to en...

Re: CPU paused but it's still used?
Intel ARK shows SSE4.2 for instruction set. Yes I know it's a decade old, I'll be upgrading the Mobo/CPU/RAM next year. Currently its: Asus P6x58d-e Intel i7-960 12GB Kingston DDR3 Nvidia 2070S FE Corsair RM-850x Phanteks Enthoo pro Cooler Master ML360R AIO Under full load the CPU hits 55C and the G...

Re: RTX 3080 on a PCIE 2.0 board? Good or bad idea?
A high end latest series GPU with an old mobo is likely to be a disappointment at least. If your heart set on a RTX 3xxx and willing to spend that money also spend some on a board/chip that are not so vastly different that you are guaranteed compatibility issues and bottle necks. Yeah I was afraid ...

RTX 3080 on a PCIE 2.0 board? Good or bad idea?
I dont know what the PCIE bandwidth requirements will be for the 3080, but I really wana get one on launchday. Only issue is my PC is an X58 mobo from a decade ago(i7 960/GTX 560ti) and it's limited to PCIE 2.0 X16. 1: I'm sure this will hurt gaming performance but not sure by how much? 2: Does F@H ...

Re: Is the RTX 2070 the best?
I live in the USA so electricity costs don't matter all that much unless I was comparing 2 gpu's that are very similar in price. The average price for a 2080ti is about $1200, whereas I can get 2x 2070's for $800. The numbers I have seen for the 2080ti are about 2.1m PPD, and the 2070 between 900k-1...

Is the RTX 2070 the best?
I've been researching GPU's to find the best one for PPD/Watts/Cost. I was looking at Vega 64 and 5700XT's but I keep coming back to the RTX 2070. I think I have my wife convinced that we need a new PC since ours is 11 years old (X58, first gen i7 960 and GTX 560ti). I spec'd out a Ryzen 3700X build...

Re: Noob here
Awesome thanks. I didn't plan on CPU folding anymore once I got a nice GPU or 2, just wouldn't make sense to waste the power.

Noob here
Hello folders. I have finally hit 100,000 points using my Synology NAS(averaging 1000-2000 PPD). And I want to now up my game and actually contribute some points. I have done lots of research and it seems the sweet spot for a GPU is the 2060KO or 2070. But I remembered this morning that my X58 Mobo ...
