Re: PCIe Slot Speed - x1 x2 x4 x8 x16
I've already replied multiple times to this question. It's up to you to find and accept those settings, or just go against it. In most cases: PCIE 1.0 x4 / 2.0 x2 / 3.0 x1 is not recommended for folding. You could fold on it, but will experience serious PPD penalties on budget to mid range GPUs. PC...

Re: Project 13415 problematic or WU dumping a new hobby?
According to bruce, the FAH client does report dumped WUs back to the servers. Dunno, I was just wondering, since a I have read a lot about people dumping WUs they don't like recently, specially those of project 13415. But if those ones are genuine faults, maybe Dr John Chodera might want to have a ...

Project 13415 problematic or WU dumping a new hobby?
I have noticed that when I get a WU of this project, usually I'm not the first whom it has been assigned to. Usually that WU would have been assigned to 2 or 3 other volunteers before me, all of them showing code "Faulty 2" and a processing time of 0.007 days. Now I'm wondering whether the...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Soarky, I am trying to make you understand that CPU processing abilities and GPU processing abilities differ, vastly. The CPU can do things a GPU won't be able to do, some things a GPU can do a lot better than a CPU. Hence atom count isn't the only deciding factor for a project to issue CPU or GPU W...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
The assignment system does not work the way, nor have the features you appear to think it does. I don’t get what features you think I am talking about that is missing, since the thing I describe is already happening and being used, where the projects are assigned/made to run as CPU, GPU or both (vi...

Re: Folding crashes over and over again...
I have noticed recently more and more often that my GPU and CPU pick up work units that have been returned as faulty by others, sometimes I'm the 3rd client after 2 faults. I was wondering if that is due to overclocking or changes on FAH's side. Reading other threads on this forum it seems that dump...

Re: core22 0.0.10 released to full FAH!
The truth is that we don't know. What we do know is that they did come. FAH asked for donors and they came. Then FAH asked for servers and they gave them. Now, if FAH asks for programming manpower, with a couple interesting forward-looking projects, the chances are good that they come. A lot of ser...

Re: CPU Cores/Threads vs GPU
Sparky, you only take into consideration the atom count in your reasoning. What about the different processing abilities, not just performance, between GPU & CPU? There are a lot of low end GPUs around for which these smaller atom count projects are probably better suited. However, FAH developme...

We're investigating to see why certain RUNs in that project are slow. Will let you know what we find out. Thanks again! ~ John Chodera // MSKCC I had one of those 13141x WUs a few days ago. It processed quite fast but had loads of PPD / TPF fluctuations throughout, not just in the beginning. My nor...

Re: Core temperatures
Anyway the top of the case has holes for two fans, but no fans installed so I'm going to add fans there - can't do any harm to suck hot air out. Good plan. My CPU (AMD FX) cooler blows air vertically up, not towards the rear exhaust fan. Even though I got a fan in the top, just removing the top dro...

Re: Should weak GPU folding?
If I understand correctly, FAH wouldn't use 7 cores for folding anyway. Large primes, of which 7 is the lowest one, don't scale well. Hence FAH client would only use 6 cores anyway. As to your GTX650, if it doesn't manage to return a result before Timeout, the work server will queue another copy of ...

When you upgraded, did you possibly un-install the old version and it's data? In that case your username and passkey information needs to be entered again.

Re: GPU: F@H & Boinc gpu projects concurrently?
FAH uses CUDA on Nvidia cards and OpenCL on AMD cards. If I'm not mistaking, FAH only uses OpneCL on both AMD and NVidia cards. There are Boinc projects which use CUDA on NVidia cards. Never the less, Task Manager might show the CUDA section to be active. However it is never accurate as to how high...

Re: GPU: F@H & Boinc gpu projects concurrently?
Instead of using Windows Task Manager, try something like GPU-Z https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ which will show you in detail on the "sensors" page what is happening on your graphics card. Alternatively there might be Nvidia tools giving you the same information. If those tools show a le...
